Hey guys,

So I have two friends that have never played for cash in their lives (played alot of pokerstars and freeroll tourneys) come with me and play at the $2/5 NL game at the local Casino tonight. They don't have any money on them at the time, so ask me if I will fund their gambling for the night with the money to be paid back later (1 already owed me $600 and the other owed me $300, so it would just go on the amount they already owe me). So I get $500 out, $200 for me and give them both $150 each and we play for about 4 hours.

gavinOATH loses $200
1 guy wins $650 (800)
1 guy wins $300 (450)

How much do you think they should they pay me back?

Thanks,

gavinOATH

If it's a loan they owe you back everything they loaned. If it was a stake (where if they lose they owe you nothing but if they win you get a % of their profits), well then you should have discussed the terms before you gave them the money. If it's a loan as you say they should pay back 100% of what they owe you.

All of it, if bigger winner was bigger debtor. All debts repaid and $50 left for dinner. When else are you going to catch them both with enough to repay you?

They should both give you $150 unless you specified before that you wanted a % of their winnings.

if they are decent friends they should off course give you all they owe plus at least offer you 50 bux or so each out of their winnings as a thank you, after all had you not lent them the cash they wouldnt have won anything.

People who borrow money all the time have a tough time ever paying it back. They don't look at it as a loan, they look at it as a price of friendship. They will have a tough time giving you back your 150 a piece you lent them to go that night.

Whenever I loan money to a friend I don't expect it back. I write it off in my mind, if I didn't have the money to loan them I wouldn't give it to them.

they should give you some jelly first. If its a loan I would give 15% to 20%. Thats a gift for the LOAN. If you are staking them you should get at least 50%. They lose and you are staking them you lost 100%.
Now about their loans I dont know what the terms are. Ill pay you back on my next paycheck, whatever. But at least 50% on the loan.
So the guy who won $650 should have given you $130 plus $300 to the loan-at least.
$300-give you $60 plus $100 to the loan.

Me, if I were the borrower, I would would pay you off the fastest way. So I would give you eveything to clear the loan.
I also make one loan to friends. And I tell them dont ask for another one until you pay the first one.

Well among friends, usually people don't charge interest, at least from my experience. But on the same token until I know someone can be trusted I don't loan them anything, and the first loan is never more than like $20. If I trust them and they pay those back then I'll loan more (loaned a friend up to $200 online, got it back within a week even though he busted and the plan was to double up, pay back, keep playing with profit). But I will never loan someone money if they don't have it to pay back. Like if I'm out with friends and one forgets his wallet or doesn't have cash on him that's one thing but if someone's broke and needs money no way I'm loaning it to them.

But as I said, if there was no interest discussed, charging interest on it would be a dick thing to do. Assuming it was discussed as presented in the forum, I'd ask to be paid back in full right now since they have the money on them. Only what they owed me, which is equal to what was loaned in total, but especially since it seems they don't have plenty of money to pay you back, I'd want my money right now.

Oh wait, I missed that the guys already owed you money. They should just pay off all of their debts to your right then and there if they made enough at the tables that night.

Yeah I definitely think they should both pay you back in full or at least as much as their willling to give. If it were up to me, I'd tell them they woulda had to pay me back before i gave them the money. lol

They should are least pay back the $150 each that you loaned them that night, and they should do it right away.

The other loan is a separate issue, and depends on the agreement you made with them. No agreement for immediate payment, no obligation for them to pay it back right away. Morally, I think they should at least pitch in a little though.

Since they won $, I think they should at least keep some of their winnings for the time being. It's a buzz-kill to win, then have to use it all to pay off a debit.

I think a good compromise would be for them to give you half the winnings towards their total dept. Then they'll you get paid back some, and they get to enjoy the fruit of their labors.

You should get all of what they owe you NOW otherwise you won't ever see that money.

Print out these replies and go over to their houses and get everything they owe, immediately. He he he.

Lets us know how it goes... sounds to me like you are worried about getting anything back...

A loan to a freind I wouldn't think of charging intrest. I'd have them payback the 150 right when they cash out at the casino and possibly ask for some payment on the rest they owe you then as well. If they are having a tough time in life I'd probably let the old loans slide till they are in better shape to repay you.

A good point was brought up about staking. I wouldn't do it simply because if they lose I lose what I gave them.

I think it's abit more of a "buzz-kill" when your mates owe you.... they have a good night, you have a bad one... then to rub it in, they use your money to make money and dont give you a cent past your $150 you gave them.

Just for the record though.... I have plenty of cash sitting in my bank atm and the guys that owe me are good friends who will pay me back... so its no big deal

im more so enquiring as to what people just think is proper ettiquite.

thanks!

I never said charge interest. If I borrowed a $150 from you and won $600 I would give you some "jelly" or a "jelly roll" thats how gamblers help each other float through tough times. When Im up I share the wealth with my friends who help me out. That has nothing to do with the loan. How you deal with the loan is up to you. If I was the loanee I would try to pay you off as quick as possible cause I hate to owe. Thats me. But I never borrow. I paid off my 2 mortgages right off the bat cash and owe no one nothing.

If I'd owed you ... I'd at least payed you back what you loaned me that night, and out of what I had left, given you half of that, then offered to at least buy you dinner for letting me have such a great night :p

The right thing to do is to pay you as much as they can of thier debt. But I suspect they will say I'll give you the money later and spend it. If you didn't get the money that night I think you are going to have a tough time getting anything back.
