Yes table selection is important, but if you have a good set of poker fundamentals you should be able to adjust to the good players at the table while still battling out the weaker players as well.

Table selection is very important. But I would say seat selection even more so. I am always moving around tables to take direct position on the biggest fish/spewtard.

Obv choosing to play vs weaker opponents helps but I think table selection mostly applies to mid and high stakes. For ex I wouldnt necessarily game select from .05/.10 to maybe .25/.50.

Nonsense.

At every stake there is a wide range in player ability.

Easy money comes from easy tables, so yeah, play with weaker players than you, but if you want to become a god of poker just try to improve every time .

Yeah its very important to just play tournaments that are in range of ur bankroll instead of when u deposit 10$ play a 6$ tournament, its a big waste. its better to just paly ur bankroll

Without reading ANY of the replies here and ONLY responding to the thread title;

Here in the US, we are limited to just how many tables are available. Table selection is a concept that worked well before BF, when there were enough
tables available to make informed decisions. After BF, our (US) options were remarkably reduced.

If you can apply tables selection, then definitely, do. It might help, More likely IMHO is that you might be missing reasonable opportunities waiting for some mythical optimum opportunity.

Better to concentrate on the other areas of your game.

very true. because cash is really a skill of game i think and if you're better than the rest then yeah, most of the time you'll walk away with tons of profit in your pocket.

let's exaggerate what he said and it'd be much better to understand i think. imagine you're sitting at a cash table and a tournament table with pros like ivey, negreanu, dwan and what not. the amount of money you're going to lose on the cash table is limitless compared to the entrance fee you paid to enroll in the tournament :D so reverse it and think you're ivey of your cash table ;)

I think he´s right, no doubts about that in cash game! But to improve your game, you´ll need to play with better players someday, to find out your leaks , or search for a coach.

I think it's true. And not just who else is at the table, but where you sit relative to them.

Its very true , we must select a table with more weaker players in order to profitable play for profit as they are easy to get value with good hands and they pay off easily than regulars

Not necessarily

I have had a dual experience with table selection. No matter which table you select, whether its just the first that is available or you spend hours looking for fish and then waiting in the line to get to that particular table, in the end its all about bad beats, at least for me. Some "pr*ick" with 7/2 off suit always gets there and it pisses me off. So in my opinion it doesnt really matter on lower stakes i guess, maybe playing higher stakes with better players it does have some benefits, but not sure, because im not there yet :)

Table Selection is just one of a few factors that I take into consideration but I have found that discipline is just as important, if not more important than table selection.
