It is very difficult to play MTT at low rates. In such tournaments a lot of people play. I also faced the question of what to play with the initial bankroll. Great topic for discussion.

It is better to have a strategy and discipline and not spoil it of course must be in the long term, you will gradually increase the limit of course you have to think good things about losing money! Good luck

The standard bank roll management rule in MTT's is 1:100. So that gives you a lot of options on PS, just find the format that you like and feel like you can learn and win in. As others have said 9 man sit in go's are a great place to learn the basics, then you can move to heads up, and then to MTT's.

Yo putting 10 euros and playing cash game is a waste of effort. Invest 200 euros claim the bonus stay away from cash game and realize $1 goes a mile in MTTs. Play MTTs cash games are predatory high skilled steady grind structures. MTTs are windfall real gambling exciting structures.

First off good for you for not being willing to invest loan money into it to start...wise financial decision definitely.

Sure you might lose it but it's a small amount to risk so take the $20 risk. If you busto you can try again no sweat.

That said, I'd say stick to full ring cash games (avoid heads up and 6 max). If you want to try MTTs or SNGs many sites (esp pokerstars) have super low buy in tourneys (like 10 cents) so if you wanna really keep the $20 roll safe, play some really small buy in tourneys and grind up. But if set on cash games stick to full ring.

If I were you, to deposit a higher value, put another 40 $, so you feel comfortable to play, you are pressured to lose the BR, will influence you at the table, you can be sure of that.
Maybe you play a freeroll, it can help increase your Br, to play the cash game, and it will definitely help your game, even if it is different the way you play, the more it will help you to have players read.
And a piece of advice that I give, study double because cash game is not easy! and good luck at the desks colleague.

It's microstakes….if you lose 2 buyins in a row....that's it for the day. Try again the next day.

When you run hot....milk it as much as you can.
That's my 2 bits.

Good luck !

This is pretty good advice. If you're concerned about the money you want to make sure that that doesn't affect your decision making too much at the table. Try to maximize the time you play when you're winning and feeling good and minimize the time that you play when you're frustrated or running badly. You'd be surprised how quickly people fall off of their A-game and how much that can affect your winrate.

Hi,
I have been playing a while and I have run up$12 buying in at 0.80c to $60 after a year. However, it is not my first ever buy in and I've been playing for years as a break even player.
1. As someone above recommended, check out BlackRain79 for excellent advice on beating microstakes.
2. Full ring games (at 9-handed tables ) will allow you to see more hands / 1/2c blinds andyou can, as a result , play tighter.

3. Keep studying! There are a lot of weaker players but levels If play are much better than 15 years ago. You will suffer against stronger players.

4. Table select very carefully. Many people talk about this , I was often too lazy to bother but it's a lot easier to play against a table of passive weak players thanotherwise.

5. Remember that poker is gambling. Variance is misunderstood by many. Your bankroll is a bit small . If you cannot replace it easily, perhaps limit yourself to playing one table with an 80c buy in and making it last as long as possible. You'll get some experience .

6. Try reading "Getting Started in Holdem" by Ed Miller abd using his excellent short stack strategy once you get short (20bb ) .

7. Keep reading these forums.

8. Enjoy !

I'm new to real money poker, as a student it's not something I can comfortably invest my student loan on. So I decided to deposit £10 on and try to build a bankroll playing tiny cash games. I'm currently up to £20 but i'm nervous that with only 10 buyins i am at risk of a downswing causing me to lose this quickly. Therefore does anyone have any tips for reducing variance at micro stakes, and of course any other advice for beating this game type is welcome.
Thanks
I assume you are playing NL games rather than Fixed Limit. Learning the basics of poker in a fixed limit micro stakes game gives you the time to practice the mathematical side of the game while eliminating the variance introduced through the no limit game.
