i have read super system 2 inside out...what other books do you recommend? and i call myslef an extreme amatuer because ive been playin around six months..though i have played several times a week...during this time..online and live..
People have different opinions about this - personally I found the Harrington on Hold 'em series invaluable, but I play a lot more sit 'n go's and tournaments than I do cash games, and they're very much directed at tournament play.
Phil Gordon's
Little Green Book is fantastic as well - again, it's got some tournament-specific content, but you can apply a lot of the lessons to tournament and ring games.
Be a little wary when you're applying the advice from Super System - I've got volume one, not volume two, but I understand the hold 'em section hasn't changed substantially.
Anywho, the first thing to remember is that Super System isn't a low-stakes text: particularly in the hold 'em section, Doyle is talking about playing a lot higher than $300 buy-ins. Consequently, a lot of the plays are geared towards that game.
When he talks about moving in on an opponent and putting pressure on them, for example, he's talking about pots that contain enough to buy a new car or pay a mortgage for three months, not pots that'll probably only buy you a cab fare home.
Also, if the hold 'em section of Super System 2 is indeed much the same to Super System 1, then the typical opponents he's talking about are much fewer and farther between these days. Doyle talks about playing a lot of rocks and weak-tight players, and he certainly expected to be one of the few aggressive players at the table. That's often not the case these days.
