I'm currently able to comfortably multi table 4 or 5 tables at a time; is it necessary or optimal in any way to be able to multi table more than this?

If so or if not, explain why and if you can give some mathematical estimates that would also be appreciated.

you should play the number of tables that will give you the highest $/hour winrate.

For example:

lets say you average 400 hands an hour 6 tabling, 700 9 tabling and 1000 12 tabling. When you 6 table your BB/100 is 6, when you 9 table your BB/100 is 4.5, and your BB/100 12 tabling is 2.5.

Then you simply convert BB/100 into $/100, eg you play $1/$2 Limit holdem and average 6BB/100 which converted to $/100 is $12/100.

Then you do ($12/100)*#hands. Which if your 6tablig would be: ($12/100=$1.2)*400=$48. And you have you hourly winrate of $48/hour.

Do the same thing for each number of tables and find out which one is most profitable.

NB: Probably best if you play say 10k hands 6tabling then 10k hands 9 tabling and then 10k hands 12 tabling then work out what your best at.
