I am trying to decide how to play vs maniacs in a $1/$2 live cash game in a casino.
Preflop vs maniacs I play these out of position:
TT+
AK

In position I also play these:
AQs
99
AJs
KQs
ATs

But post flop I smooth call with with top pair or better all the way down to the river.
If I get middle pair or a pocket pair in between middle pair or top pair, I bet (bluff) once.
I also bet semi-bluff with a draw once. Maybe sometimes I will bet my top pair or better so that I am not readable...

Do you guys think my post flop strategy is sound? I was just thinking about it today. I just want to know what you think? Is playing middle pair to aggressive?
Thanks!
Erik W.

You should play more hands pre-flop against maniacs. Especially in position.

Postflop you just call if they bluff a lot.

I think your strategy looks good. Perhaps in some situations you can expand the range of hands to surprise the maniac.

Try to be more passive against maniacs and not to bluff hands with showdown value on the river. Check and call are good options.
Choose good hands to raise.

Is calling down a maniac’s bet with bottom pair or ace high on the flop, turn, and river a foolish move?

Just fold and wait. You know you are playing a manic who is going to triple barrel so have at least middle pair or better at minimum (just my opinion). Bad aggressive players will have hands also so be careful about that. Calling someone down with Ace high, maniac or not, is probably not a good play.

Guys, why does noone tell him that he is waaaaaaaaaay to nitty?
AK, TT+? Thats not even 4% of hands. Thats a casino preflop all in range.
AKo, ATs+ KQs, 99+? Thats 5,1%!!! of hands.
In a casino :) AGAINST a MANIAC!!!

Lets assume its 5% of hands. That means we play every 20th hand. Meanwhile we lose 3xBB + 3xSB = 4.5bb

Every hand we play has to make up 4.5bb to break even. No way.

You should open up dramatically Erik, otherwise you get eaten alive by blinds.
I would suggest to play 10% at least. Better would be 13-18% which is still nitty.

Personally when playing in real life I find it quite easy to tell when a manian is fully bluffing/betting a draw or has an actual hand from betting pattern or body language, but can’t really tell online.

You are letting the maniac run you over, you need to play way more hands, especially when your opponent is a maniac and therefore bad postflop, probably paying you off huge if you hit a half decent hand

One strategy against maniacs can be to play tight/nit up and wait an orbit or two and then make sure you have pos, raise the maniac's bet, hopefully you will be get called and go heads-up, and no matter the flop jam over the top if they bet or jam if they don't. Either way you should pull in this pot since you've been playing so nitty. I mean at some point we're just going to have to gamble against the villains at the table, but we can do it w/finesse.
