My bosses at work have been bigging up their new idea of buying everyone lunch the Friday at the end of each quarter, this being the first one we got an email this morning

"Thank you for hard work the past 13 weeks blah blah etc etc this Friday is the first lunchtime Friday thing, this could be a McDonald's, kfc, etc, line managers will be in touch with deets later"

So I'm all happy cuz someone else is buying my Friday big mac this week....

Line manager emails about an hr ago, "Any ideas what to do for lunch on Friday, budget is £3.50 each" .... This for a team of ****ing 5 in a company that is in the times 100 tech companies list, big contracts and money flying around.

Everyone else seems fine about it, am I wrong and being an ungrateful **** thinking that this is a piss take?

I replied that when the boss said McDonald's I didn't know he meant a happy meal, add my share to everyone else's n I'll sort myself out lol

Lol wtf. I worked for a smallish company like that and they covered lunch every day (although we had to work through lunch) for like 10-20/head depending on day and once/week or so would cover an after-work outing usually drinks+dinner or something which would easily be 50/head. So maybe I'm spoiled and we definitely had high expectations in the office but yeah 3.50 is a ****ing joke for a once/week thing. Like honestly I'd rather buy my own meal for 5-10 or w/e than get McDonalds bought for me.

Line manager emails about an hr ago, "Any ideas what to do for lunch on Friday, budget is £3.50 each" ....

I am a cynic far too often for my own good. Years ago, my work would get us all donuts every other Friday (payday). It wasn't anything special. Then two years ago they replaced the big office coffee machine with one of those fancy single serve coffee makers. For a brief moment in time, we had donuts and nice coffee.

Then we got an email. It cost too much to have donuts and the good coffee. We would vote on which we would keep. I told everyone that the coffee would win. But, since that was our only benefit more people would drink it (few were drinking it at first) and the costs would explode. So we would end up with neither coffee nor donuts.

Sure enough, three weeks later they removed the coffee machine. It was "cost-prohibitive". Now we have no donuts, no fancy coffee, and they never put the office coffee machine back so we have no coffee at all.

Lol, I don't really have a point here. I am just bitter.

Goal for 2014

Get vinnie a coffee machine.

LOL, after about a year, I gave up on them ever bringing it back. I brought in my own machine from home.

As I am one of the few oasises where coffee can be found, my poor machine gets ample use. We do 3-5 pots of coffee a day through it. I would be upset, but I currently drink coffee for free. The people who use my machine bring in coffee when it starts to get low. It is a communal thing. I bought 2 cans of coffee and a couple packs of filters in the last 10 months. That's pretty cheap.

I still wish they would bring back the old machine. It was able to handle that sort of volume. I often have people hovering near my office waiting for the currently brewing pot to finish.

Forgot about that haha

The most Primark ever gave me was a stool to sit on. Which they subsequently took away as it "encouraged laziness".
