Does anyone have little pet hates in poker, such as i for all my inoerfections hate people who talk a perfect game but play the worst brand of poker ever, but my biggest hate is at home games, and the way people insist on 1 stacking there chips in 1 big high stack but with no order to their chips so they have to dismantle there tower to bet or call and 2 i dont know why this gets to me but it is my worst pet hate, i really cant stand the way people MUST use backhand flicks to bet, they cant just put their chips out there in a pile or even fling them so they cascade accross the felt, for lack of a better description.

Petty yes, but i was just curious if anyone else has pet hates at the table

Just one pet peeve I can think of right now:

I hate when people yell and dance and jump around like they just scored a touchdown in the Super Bowl. Then add a degrading comment and you've reached total classlessness. The one wild guy at the wsop ME who was chip leader for a while who said "Get him a stretcher" should be ashamed. Though not as bad, I've seen similar stuff in person at a casino poker room. Act thankful, but don't act like you just stiff-armed the guy on your way to the endzone.

Sheesh!

I used to play a regular home game, and a few times we invited an extra guest, who I (and everyone else) HATED.

He must have been the most irritating kid in the world; as soon as it was your turn to act, he'd let you know:

Everybody posts their blinds, and collects their cards"TAYLOR!"

"....yes?" "ITS YOUR TURN"

".......yeah I know, Aaron."

"OH OK.....SO ARE YOU GONNA CALL?"

"I don't know yet, let me decide Aaron.....I raise it up to 300""MJ ITS YOUR TURN; CALL FOLD OR RAISE!?"

...and so on...I literally almost snuffed him a couple times; once, we were heads up and I was shortstacked (he's loose as f*ck and twice as lucky) and pushed with a big ace; he ended up having AA, and I was drawing all but dead. He was laughing in my face as he scooped the pot and took the tourney pool, and I had to sit on my hands to make sure I didn't slap him.

...but this was at my friends house, and I try not to punch people just because their irritating me :p

Worst part was he was a family friend of the host, so we couldn't 'not invite him'

god i hated that dude...

So anyways; he made me adopt a new pet peave and that is people who are impatient at the table and rush you.

Chuck: Please consult my strategy that I posted eons and eons ago. When faced with this sort of player, go ahead and punch him in the face. Make sure to knock the sucker out, and then procede to distribute his chips equally so that no one complains. No one will question you, I mean you just punched the last guy that pissed you off in the face! When he wakes up, just tell him he chugged a bottle of tequila, and it was awesome! That explains the headache and the lack of memory.....

"(he's loose as f*ck and twice as lucky)" we have the exact same guy at our game, and to top it off he does all the stuff that i mentioned so im double peeved, and as for the quote, i have never seen play like this in all my life, and the worst is, it only happens at home game, at casino, he is down a few hundred in under 1 hour, things like ALL IN for 10000 when blinds are 100/200, and they always manage to get a caller, and they win with K3off with 2 pair kings and 3's, its a crazy game i tell you

I love it. I play home tournies with some locals and there was one time (and only one time we actually caught a friend of a friend cheating). Let's just say that some of the guys I play cards with can take a joke and a bad beat, but that is where it ends. He hasn't been back since (neither invited nor dared to return), 'nuff said. :) His friend only came back to play once after that. So while slightly off topic, I still agree with a modified version of the asshole strategy, namely take him out back and beat the shit out of him.

And for those too lazy to look for it, her is the "Asshole Strategy" thread.:D

i do get irritated easily if your inconsiderate of who your playing with.. i host home games about once or twice a month and it is mostly close friends but occasionally they will bring co workers. one time one of my friends co workers would constantly be text messaging on his phone and be totally oblivious to what was happening and another time a guy reached in and threw in my blind. apparantely he didnt think i was moving fast enough. other than that i just try and focus on my game and not worry about what others are doing

That's another one of my pet peeves.

You could of demonstrated to him just how fast you could really move by adopting the joshy strategy and hitting him a shot into the puss.

I really don't have any pet peeves at the poker table. I look at it this way, if someone's doing something abnormal at the poker table, they're probably inexperienced.. which means they're a soft opponent. I pay attention to their betting habits and such, and not so much how they're acting at the table. Because, most of the time people at home games, low limit tables, etc.. give away a whole lot more info by the way they play. A lot of times the way they behave at the table is just entirely too much to sort through when you can just look at the way they played their hand(s). Though, sometimes they give away HUGE tells, but if you don't have an instant read on what they're doing.. better off just going off how they've played previous hands.

But, I've gotten WAY off topic. The thing I find the most irritating, is lucky drunk players. You KNOW they're playing horrible and can barely read their cards but for some reason, they just out draw you every time. If someone plays a decent game and gets lucky.. hey, that's poker. But when some drunk is constantly betting like $20 into a $2 pot, and you finally catch a hand and stick it to him, only to have him draw out.. or actually wake up with a good hand? THAT is the worst.

I say punch him the face, take his chips and have a drink of the tequila you would have thrown on him since he's already drunk.

We have a similar type of guy who justs gets on everyone's nerves. We cringe when we see him drive up. The saving grace is that he rarely wins, so we enjoy taking his money.

We have some friends that we never invite to play poker anymore. They are the worst players. They don't know how to fold any two cards, will call any raise, and usually suck out on the river. :p Luckily we usually only play a friendly $20 buy-in. :D
