So you are saying that bigger average pot size means higher variance? Higher variance per hand sure but not overall. There is a big big difference between the 2 things.

Of course it does! Larger pot size means you are more likely to bust on any given hand or have your stack crippled (unless you have tripled up). This means higher variance and the need for additional buy ins in the event of a downswing.

I'm really not understanding how you are arguing against that?

Why are we "more" likey to bust out instead of being more likely to double up? Playing against aggressive bad players results in big losses but it results in even bigger wins. You suggest a freaking 40 BI bankroll. You are never ever going to experience a downswing like that playing with bad players. I have played home games for over 3 years now and usually the pot size pre flop shoots to 50BB if not more. And then usually all the money goes in after the flop. Obviously that's not how literally every hand plays but there have been sessions where a big proportion of hands go like that.

I have not experienced a more than 500BB downswing in a huge sample of hands. It seems you maybe don't know how to play against bad aggressive players.

A few thousand would probably be good.

i think taking shots is needed and good for live play.

I think if you have ~4k you can take shots playing 2-5

Like someone else said, 1-2 is the smallest so it doesn't matter if you blow in that, you can't go any lower.

I say see if you can grind up ~4-5k from 1-2 then try to dabble in 2-5

I'd say, just enough to get in the game and play 50 hands. At that point, if you're playing decent you should be able to survive 100 hands or more. I'd say that's more than adequate if you're talking experimenting with a "side income". Just remember to fold a lot and don't go on tilt. That's why we're all millionaires on here . . . right? lol.

Depends on what you buy in for

At my casino the min buy in for $1/2 is $60, and the max is $300.

I like to buy in for $200, so for me, to be properly bankrolled for full time play I would like to have $4000 for a bankroll

If I was just playing part time or for a side thing I would like to have $2000, absolute min being $1000, and if I was on a $1000 roll then I would probably buy in for $100-150

Depends if the money is replaceable. If it's not then play 2/5 until your roll is down to about $3-4k, then play 1/2 until you're back up to $5k or so.
