For those of you that play in cash games at casinos...When you've been given your playing chips, does the person in charge ever tell you which table to sit at? I'm somewhat new to playing in cash games at casinos, only having played on four different occasions, and three of the four times they have told me which table to sit at. I had never really given it much thought, until the last time I went...There were three tables going, and two of which had 2 seats open. One of the tables was filled with an older crowd, and the other much younger. They sat me with the younger crowd...I'm in my 20's but being a somewhat tight player and still trying to make the adjustment from tournament play to cash games, I was really preferring to sit with the older crowd. It's funny though, as it worked out well for me so I'm not complaining! I was just curious as to know if I have a right to sit where I wish assuming there are open seats on more than one of the tables?

Mostly you just go where you're told.

You can ask for a transfer but it's the floor staff's decision when/if they move you. They're often trying to keep all of their tables going and wont move someone from a table with fewer players to one with only one empty seat.

At the local live games here the staff running the game always tell us where to sit, and if one table is getting short of players they then tell whoever they want to move.
The staff have a computer program and on arrival when we register to play, our details are put into the computer and it is the computer that tells the staff where to seat us.
