Limping AA UTG is a very read dependent play. On an aggressive table or with very aggressive players in late position it's a nice idea.

So I guess Dan Harrington is an idiot for recommending limping with it UTG 20% of the time. As Schatz pointed out, there's nothing inherently wrong with it, at all. It can be risky, as shown, but can also pay huge dividends. Pretty unlucky sequence of events for the guy (no raise, horrible flop), if you think about it.

Don't remember calling anyone an idiot..... How about this, if you limp UTG with AA beware of connected flops and big bets?

Yeah I think the principle is more general, like "when limping Aces UTG be wary of playing in an unraised pot." Obviously you give the later position guys a shot at limping with marginals and they could hit anything or pick up great draws. Also the BB gets a freeroll and he could have any two. Reads will help you out here as your now in the dark essentially.

Saw a post somewhere about this. Limping with high pairs from early position supposed to be one of the "new" tactics used. In line with the "UTG is the new Button" style play that actually seems to work on TAG tables.

it only works if you are a strong enough player to fold them, most are not. take this for instance if you limp and 5 people see flop can you get away from it? or even if you limp and big blind only sees hand can you again muck it?

most cant and will go broke there, for the players that can not fold it raise it preflop every single time and never limp it.

the reason to limp them is so that someone behind you raises and you can re-raise. If that dosent happen though most of the time they go in the muck because now you are playing most likely OOP against random hands and have no idea what you are up against.

True, stormsva. But if you are quite comfortable folding whatever hand if the flop or the play doesnt fit your reads and expectations, it is handy. And yes again, the limping is most often a tool to get aggressive types to commit to the pot making it a tool for maximizing profit rather than your standard play tool.
