Hello friends, this is my first post to cardschat. I am 19 years old and have been playing poker since the day I turned 18. I have been a poker dealer as well as recreational player for the past year.
My friend runs a $.05/$1 home game with a minimum $20 buyin and no max. The game gets pretty huge, especially when it runs into the night. 5x-10x raises are standard, and it is not uncommon to see a 800-1000bb pot, especially on nights with alcohol involved. I feel I am definitely one of the best regulars, since I have fundamental understanding of preflop and postflop strategy. I 100% have some sort of edge, although I don't have a large enough sample size to say exactly how big or small that edge is.
In this game, my friend usually just deals, and rakes at 10% capped at $10. Every hour he does a bonus flip where he matches $3 from every player for a full table flip. This means at a seven to nine handed table (standard) there $21-$27 in rake-back every hour. I have watched how much he takes per hour, and its about $50-$60, minus rakeback.
On top of the bonus flip every hour, he pays a $25 high hand (full house or better) if the table is 9-handed for an hour, and has payouts for Quads, Straight Flush and Royal Flush, all ranging from $100-$300 bonuses.
Now my question: Is this game beatable? At first I thought the rake was too high, but with the big time action and all the bonus money, I'm starting to think it might be a good game.
I would love to hear from all you pros out there, would you frequent this game?
Thanks.
David
