Thoughts Tourneys vs Cash (online)

I have been a player for a long time and really got into the online poker scene when PP began. I was a losing player but slowly got better and finally was good enough to be backed online from some stakers (*DFP)for all my tourneys from $55 and down. Providing winning play and staying profitable for all. Then Black Friday came and poof, money on sites got froze and I was not allowed to play. I have been TOYING around in online poker some cash, some small tourneys w/o upping my game or knowledge. I keep running into crazy calls with off beat hands vs my hands and raises. I need to learn todays modern game, if i am going to continue to play.

1) Should I stick with cash games and play TAG cash
or
2) Revert back to tourney play and continue to work on getting informed about the new strageties?

Recommendations or suggestions welcomed:stoned:

Try the tourneys is my suggestion, it seems cash games can take your money quickly.

If you were a winning tournament player before, you should probably stick with tournaments, and you could get back into a rhythm by playing CC freerolls at first. At your current rate of 5 posts/year, you could reach the minimum quota of 75 posts and apply for the Freeroll Club by the end of 2030 :)

Crazy calls are good.

When you say modern game I don't think you mean that players call with worse than before. At least not in a 55 dollar tourney. The games are tougher and the players better and often more aggressive. But in the "good old days" people really called with total shit. Hard to find these type of players anymore over nano-stakes.

If you want to win more than "pocket money" I recommend LIVE Cash.

I prefer tournaments, a bad day and just lose a ticket. If you play regular tables can be disastrous if you do not control your bankrol:confused::confused:

It depends what your goals are in poker. What games do you prefer, tourneys or cash? I personally don't like tourneys at all and would suggest cash. If you like tourneys though and have time to play them go for it.

You should look for the type that suits you best, because each person has a style of play, I particularly like long-term tournaments.

Personally i like to mix it up, tournys are always great for seeing some crazy hands imo

Tournaments are probably better for building and maintaining a bankroll. Cash games can be swingy.

Tournaments can be much more “variancy” but just feels easier to build a roll through tourneys for me as well

Stick with tourneys. Though many sites are hunting them, online cash games in the micros are littered with bots and collusion. Way harder to cheat in a tourney.

It is the exact opposite of this ^

Tournament play is a way higher variance format vs. cash games.

And for those suggesting cash games are easy to lose lots of money quickly... vs. tourneys... I disagree again. For those who are suggesting that, I'd say they don't know how to play cash tables.. OR are playing way beyond decent BRM. Cash tables can be 'slow & steady' increase to one's bankroll... tournaments can have very long stretches without a significant cash.

My advice...
Start off at the bottom in each.... maybe a few weeks on one format... and then a few in the other. Playing deepstacked cash tables won't hurt one's tournament play (imo).. and can actually be very beneficial to it.

It is good to try to diversify in poker but you have to be smart when doing so stay with the tournaments and study and practice with low levels in cash tables until you can earn money, for this I recommend you make a good distribution of your Bankroll if it were I would start with 90% for tournaments and 10% for cash tables. This is my advice, seek to diversify as a poker player but be cautious and of course the study should be something constant for both cash table and new tournament strategies

Novice poker players should independently try out all available game formats. Now there are micro-limits for cash games, and quite inexpensive tournaments, so you do not need too big a bankroll to try a different game. There are advantages and disadvantages to both cash games and tournaments. In my opinion, each player will be closer to one specific discipline. It depends on the characteristics of your character, and on your goals, and on the time that you have. My main advice is to try your hand at various formats, but then be sure to choose one specific discipline - tournaments or cache. And already there, do your best to succeed.

I think online poker strategy is simple - to reach the top places.
Over time, over the years, we gain some experience in online poker, learning some tricks and developing skills.
I think it's necessary to play not only cash games, but also to learn and practice the game in all kinds of poker games.
In the future, this will only increase interest in every poker game. This will improve the result.
Of course I say this based on my personal experience.

I think stuff like this will always happen... Keep playing Cash and Tourneys and learn from what you did right and wrong.

Hi, you should play what you like the most and also the game in which you have been more profitable.You can also buy poker books about new strategies.Finally, it´s up to you.Good luck!
