Ya, go to Canada to play.....err, what if you have a job, career, loved ones, community, inability to get a long term visa
for any multitude of reasons, don't want/aren't able to play professionally.....etc. etc. etc.
Also, live play is far from perfect in the US; there are some options for many Americans, but the rake is insanely high because of an oligopoly the gaming companies have on casino licenses and the pressure for poker to compete in profit margin against things like slots
/other table games.
The optimal system would be a card room system where liscensure and taxation would be reasonable but still a nice steady, maintainable stream of revenue for the municipality/state, a good provider of decent paying jobs for relatively unskilled folks in the community and still be able to be operated for a profit and provide fairly rakes games/donkaments for all the local players.
We are miles and MILES away from that reality.
