I guess, my initial thought would be (as far as advice) give yourself a modest bankroll to start and treat it like your precious, precious baby. The discipline you learn from this will be worth more than the bankroll itself.
I think $250-$500 sounds fine, but with that bankroll if you are multi-tabling then mostly grind $1-3 SnGs after work and occasionally take a shot at $5 SnGs when you're on an upswing and feeling saucy!
I like the $2-3 turbos SnGs because I can fit in 2 sets after work after toddler bedtime, and if I do well, it sounds like something to my husband "I did pretty good tonight, I won $30 in 2 hours" sounds a lot more impressive than "I did pretty good tonight I min-cashed for $10 in a field of 2,000 players after grinding for hours and holding my pee and neglecting laundry and dinner"....ya catch my drift?
accumulate poker points, rewards points etc whatever you want to call them and use those to buy in to MTTs
invest in some decent software (if you haven't already) and spent at least 25% of your "poker" time reflecting and studying. This can be as simple as trolling cardschat forums and strategy articles, or posting hand histories or reviewing
hands and tournaments, or reading books, watching poker videos etc.
Make it a point to include reflecting on your game when things are going well. I think this is
very important to reflect on your play when you are doing something right...most of us just keep on playing our rush and don't stop to analyze and ponder our game until we hit a downswing and we feel we are running low on money and better stop and take a breath...and then we only focus on the recent history of play which wasn't going well which can turn into a negative repeating cycle.
