Phil gordons little green book

just wondering if phil gordons little green book is good for a beginners ? I play mostly sit and go for buy in of 1.10$ and 2.10$ 6 max at the table ? I find it a bit techinal ? Is there a simpler beginners books?

this is the best beginners book out there IMO. post what ever you got promblems with. im sure someone will help you better understand the tricky parts.

Yes, it is a very good book for beginners. It was the first book I ever read, and I definitely recommend it.

Really? Keep trying to read it, i thought Phil did a great job of explaining pot odds and how to play in general. I liked it more than HoH 1

I have a copy although my brother has had it for over a year , I would say his two books green and blue are probally the simplest I have read to understand, blue is comprised of hand historys where he explains his thought process in each hand which some people may find better to follow.

The Little Green Book is the first and turns out the only poker strategy book I ever read. Started playing right after that three (or is it four) years ago, and haven't looked back.

Bought the blue one too, just haven't read it yet.

Definitely one of the best (and maybe even the best) beginner's books available. If it seems a bit complicated or technical just stick with it, it should start making sense soon enough.

Phil's Little Green Book is the book I ALWAYS recommend as a first read.
Just take it slow... .Phil covers alot of stuff in that book. It's a great base to work from.

Daniel Negreanu's first two books are pretty easy reads (but they don't cover as much material as Phil's book and nowhere near as good imo.. but still ok reading, especially for a beginner).

I liked the Little Green Book so much that I loaned it out from the library on 3 separate occassions and then when I saw it on sale in a local book store (a bunch of them there on sale due to cover damage on the books), I went & bought 3 copies of it (1 for myself, 2 for presents for friends).

I've read close to 40 poker books now (maybe more.. idk... just ordered up 3 more today and have 3 more after that on my list, lol). Even with reading all of those books, I'd still rank Phil's book as #1 for first-time read.
Maybe (as others suggested) post questions you have about the book here in this thread?? You'll probably get TONS of answers.

Make sure you understand any of the points in any book before you try them. Some may be over your head so don't put your entire bankroll one one method you just read.

Yes, I thought it was an exceptional book and would recommend it in any library. Every author says just about the same thing about poker but in different terms. Finding that special author, the one that appeals and articulates his thoughts for you, is all realitive. Good luck in your discovery of finding them...

it was very good, the little blue book is great as well, read both.

Hmm I think I'll get it... haven't read much other than super system and barry greenstein's book. I've read the stuff from the Hendon Mob's website that was helpful, but not much more than that.

Little green Book

Yes, the Little Green Book is very good and I think very understandable for beginners as compared to say a Harrington book which is more advanced and I found difficult to follow.

Best source is on-line blogs etc from Poker Web sites and alot cheaper unless you are checking the books out of the library which is what I do.

Poker books aren't necessarily expensive if you think of the cost in the context of how much (more) you can win by improving your game to a decent state. If you do that and also exercise a reasonable degree of game / tournament selection, it's not very hard to have an average win rate of a few bucks per hour.

In my case, I buy the books I really want to read, and also get some from the library when I see something that might be worth a read, but that I'm sure I want to buy. The balance is probably 75-80% buy.

I just finished little green book it was a good read on top of being an interesting poker book.

Get both the Green and Blue book. The Green book is the theory, the Blue book is the application. I got the boxed set (black, blue and green). The Gordon and Harrington books should be on every players bookshelf.
