My local casino has a weird buy-in amount for $1/$2 and $1/$3 games: Rather than your typical 40bb to 100bb, it has:
- $1/$2 has min BI of 20bb ($40) and max BI of 40bb ($80)
- $1/$3 has min BI of 17bb ($50) and max BI of 67bb ($200)
So I was thinking of going to a $1/$3 table and only buying in for about 20bb ($60). My plan would be to play super nitty preflop whilst watching all the fish limp-call $20 with low pocket pairs and marginal hands like K7s. I would wait for a strong hand (AJ+, KQ and 99+) and then I would either limp-shove (in early position), open raise to something like $25 and shove any flop (in late position), or 3bet shove preflop (if someone open raises before me).
The other benefit is that games tend to run deep at my casino (last time I played $1/$3 there were 3 players with over 200bb on the table) and deep-stacked players tend to call 5bb raises with marginal hands, making a 3bet shove seem like a good way to exploit them.
The main reason I am coming up with this strategy is because my BR is low and I can't handle huge variance swings at the moment. With this strategy, I only risk $60 at a time and I think I can get my money in good more often than not.
Would this strategy work?
