I think in this situation 6BB is a good raise, simply because of the flush draw on the board that could beat your set you don't want to risk to much but you are also showing strength that could make the other two fold if they think you have the A/K high flush but if they just have two pair you still have them beat. For sets, the best case scenario is that they come on the flop with a high card on the board (J+) and what I usually like to do is just call the raises or check-raise if I'm in early position and most of the time the v will pay you sufficiently. I would have possibly thrown out a little bet on the flop though once they both checked just to see if they had anything before the 4th spade but that's just me, otherwise I think you made a good call here.

Thanks for your thoughts, thatguy.

Outcome:
fold, fold

Hero mucks 8♥8♣ (Three of a Kind, Eights)

Hero wins 12 BB

Given that there was no aggression from either of the opponents, I would have made it a little less, somewhere between 3.5-4bb. Try to get paid by a Q/7 or even a 3, protection against flush, and if they had a flush draw, you want them to try to draw, even with that size, they're not getting the right price to call.

I was tempted into the bigger raise by the strange 1BB bet and call in front of me. It seemed that someone had something they might call with.

Thinking about the hand now, that action could be read one of two ways:
1. One or more players have weak hands or flush draws, and are trying to "set the price" with a small bet.
2. One or more players have a monster, like a made flush, and are trying to get at least a little bit of value.

My raise was too big for case #1, because it would probably cause those players to fold. And it was too big for case #2, because it would increase my losses.
So I believe I made a mistake here.
