What percentage of your bankroll should you consider using for a buy in either at a cash game or a tournament? As to practice good bankroll management?

I would try to have at least 25 buyins for cash games and 50-100 buyins for tournaments. These are on the aggressive side as you may want a little more to be sure not to go broke, especially in large field MTTs.

I usually use the rule 30 buyins for cash games and 50 buyins for tournaments.

Aggressive: 5% for cash games, 3% for STTs, 2% for MTTs.

Conservative: 2% for cash games, 1% for STTs, 0.5% for MTTs.

For micro stakes, at least 50 buy-ins for cash and 200 buy-ins for MTTs (assuming you will rebuy or re-enter at least once). For higher stakes, 100 buy-ins for cash, 300-500 buy-ins for MTT's.
