I have on several occasions complained about Bandits (Players just sitting and not playing).
My perspective has just changed as I explain before. I look at them in a different way now.
I finished 3rd as a Bandit. I say bandit because I complain often when players are on the felts and no action as they go around and around the table with only losing (possibly winning) blinds. My PC and Vonage phone system went down while I was in 5th place and going all in with trips or a boat (not sure). I had over 9,000 chips and felt I could double up. My computer locked up and I worked on it for 10 minutes and finally got back into the game and had dropped chips down to 7,200. Played a couple of hands (had already lost the other hand with the nuts) and the PC went down again. Worked and worked on it to no avail. I went to bed ticked and was not aware of finishing 3rd. I felt good and thought I had a good chance of placing1 or 2 at that time. This has happened on several occasions to me and I know it has happened to you. When I awoke the next morning, I had a congratulations from a fellow player on finishing 3rd and winning money. That made my day. I can now say I understand why there are Bandits and didn't realize it until last night. Good luck to all in these cases.

Ha! Nice finish for not playing. Well done! :)

I was having connection issues last night, too. Made it really hard to play, so I stopped.

I don't mind if someone has been disconnected late in a game. It's not usually their choice. I assume they are not happy.

It's the people just sitting out but apparently connected that annoy me. I don't get wanting to coast as far as you can. That said, there are a lot of times, I would have made it further at a final table if i had just coasted.

Never heard them referred to as Bandits. LOL

Neither have I--I love it! They're generally called sitters but I like your name better. The irony is that we all can steal from the blinds from bandits, not the other way around. :D

3rd Place for Boston

Was this the tournament you referred to when you KO'd me earlier? You were in 5th Place when your connection was lost and your phone service went out too? You still finished in 3rd Place by unfortunately sitting out?

An "active" player always has a greater "advantage" over a "bandit" or sitter for the reasons that LarkMarlow mentioned.

However, had you been actively playing, you could have possibly been KO'd out of the tournament in 5th or 4th Place vice finishing in 3rd (ITM) as you did.

But, there is no way for a "sitter" or "bandit" to actually win the tournament!

As long as it isn't obviously intentional I don't really care, but I had a guy once that was sitting out at the end, but was still chatting in the chatbox and was trying to say he was unable to play, everyone was pissed at him.

On a side note, why change the font to that? Makes it hard to read.

Sometimes it's smarter to take the sure road then to gamble and bust... Having plans to go out can make that descision easier on you... just leave the table and walk away.. go and fun and who knows you might out last everyone but first place.

I have seen people sit idle and making payouts much bigger then they might have trying to win.

Sitters or bandits

I have found this sitiutation frustrating at times myself. Being at a 9 player table with six sitters and 1 callin station and a chip bully realy can put you on your gaurd. But when ya have the best cards comming into a flop it's frustrating knowing that your raise most likely will be challenged. And one thing I try to avoid at all costs is playing too many hands with low blinds. So my best advice is to sit out u self or at least to try and sit out 4 a bit. Till things equalise or settle down. Kinda like waiting for late reg to end before you make big moves. Bigbigbucs

Another thing that people new to online poker often miss is that if you're in a hand and the only other players still in are bandits aka sitters, always raise even if you have garbage. There's nothing worse than giving chips to folks who (for whatever reason) aren't playing.

The more predictable my opponent, the more I like him, so I love sitters/bandits because they are *extremely* predictable. They always fold when raised! :)

I was a bandit

But, it was not intentional ... my son had car problem and was stranded on side of highway. I left to go assist him about 2 minutes prior to tournament starting (and did not unregister) and did not return until after game was over.

I actually placed 3rd and was ITM without playing a single hand. Game was over when I returned.

That result proves it, Wally--you're scary whether you play or not. ;)

Eh you still lost your rake, so I guess that was your punishment ;)
