Atlantic City = Borgata; Vegas = MGM.. I wish the Landmark Casino was still open, but they blew it up in 1996

I looked at the Pokeratlas link, and it seems like Plaza has good deals for low buyin tourneys when it comes to rake (<10%-south of 10%).

There are plenty of $50 buy-in tournaments - but keep an eye on the starting chips. Many of them start you at just 5000 chips with 15 or 20 minute levels. Those turn into a track meet in a hurry. You might be better off planning to play two tournaments a day with slightly higher buy-ins and larger starting stacks/levels, etc. You'll probably enjoy those more, and if you are a skilled player your odds of cashing are much better.

My suggestion is not to limit yourself to a single hotel/casino. You're kind of cheating yourself out of the Vegas experience if you aren't exploring different poker rooms.

Yes iscwin1 you have a much better option. Its called Cherokee North Carolina.Harrahs has a beautiful well run casino and poker room, and their building another one in Murphy N.C. Both are at the most, 1and a half hour from me.The rooms are always comped to poker players.Everything about this casino is top notch, even the southern hospitality.Poker room runs 1-2 limit and no limit,3-5 no limit. 500 min. buy in 2000 max,and a 5-10 no limit with 500 min and 4000 max. They also run gtd. tournys like a 1000 gtd.$35 buy in.They also have poker pro tap tables you can play on.They also have wsop sattelite tournys for last 2 years around march or early april with direct seat entries for as low as 40 bucks.Very soft players on cash tables.Good luck.

Check out: http://www.pokeratlas.com/poker-tournaments/las-vegas-nevada/upcoming

That is the site I use whenever I go to Vegas, to figure out my MTT schedule for when I'll be in town. I would call first to make sure any game, buy-in, and time are all accurate. Sometimes, start times have been changed or poker rooms no longer offer tournaments. Just call first to save yourself the potential wasted time. Best of luck on your trip. Let us know where you played and how you did. I miss Vegas and maybe can live vicariously through you, lol.

That sounds like a sweet option, especially if it's close to you. $35 buyin for a $1000 Gtd isn't bad for a live game.:) But if they run the tournaments on the pro tap tables, then skip this place. Those tables are weak. I'm not a fan, and every other plkayer I know that has used them doesn't like then either. Granted I haven't been to the Casino you speak of, I have used them in a different Casino. And I wasn't impressed with them one bit. Only positive is there are no dealers to tip after the tournament.:D

I'm looking at going this year for about 8 nights. So far the cheapest but best accomodation I could find was Mandalay bay, which was around $1100 for 8 nights. I tihnk the Luxor is even cheaper, but I've heard bad things about that place.

I was going to book Mandalay, and just deal with the fact that I'm on one end of the strip. IT'll be my first time to vegas, so it wont bother me having to travel the entire thing to get to the poker room I want to play at (Aria).

Obviously I have zero experience, but it was just a thought. and that $1100 was quoted directly from mandalay website. I honestly feel liek you can book the trip cheaper if you plan yourself and avoid travel agents, because travel agents have set deals for set nights.
