What is it with people utilising thier full time (15s) to make a decision every round in a tournament?

Killing time just damages everyone at the table as you end up playing far fewer hands than on another table. I realy do not understand why you want to do this other than to try "tilt" your oppents.

Thoughts please?

I think they do it a. because they are new and so unsure if they should call etc.. b. because they are using an odds calculator c. close to bubble time because they are scared of bubbling and d. to make the blinds go up fast where they can start turning on their aggro hehehe unsure!!!

It is just because they want to have more winnings in their hands.

To be honest, i have used this "strategy" very often when close to bubbling. Other than that unless i have a very tough call to make i can usually fold calll or raise in an instant. However, some people use their time in order to put people on tilt. Less time= less hands= people scrambling for chips, pushing on mediocre hands. thats only my two cents, tell me what you think,

I have to confess I've done it some times when I'm down in chips and I'm close to the bubble. That's my only reason for doing that.

Depending on the buy in, you might be able to double up your investment just by taking all extra time possible. I've gone even further by shutting down my internet connection. This give you 90 extra seconds :D!

It can be one of two things, if a players does that from the beginning of the tourney or SNG he's probably new to poker and unsure of what to do. But if all a sudden someone does it right before making the money, or right after there just stalling to squeeze a little more cash because they know their not good enough to win the tourney. :)

I understand dragging time out when you close to the bubble but this was happening near the start of a tourney.

After the tourney I ended up at a SNG table with one of the guys doing it and asked him why...his answer was "more chance of making it ITM". I rofled!!!!!

This same guy called my 5BB raise preflop with Q10o, then called my all in for 3/4 of his stack post flop with air. He cracked my Aces with the turn and river:confused:. He now has a nice big note saying "DONKEY!!!!!!"

It makes sense sometimes. But what I can't figure out is why guys do it when the tables are hand for hand...

I've delayed near the bubble with a short stack many times and that strategy does work but I've also seen "the delay" early in tournaments. Are they multi-tabling? ...don't know of a poker reason for it.

Heh I played with a guy once with a nice mellow avatar of a sunset of a beach and every hand from hand one he let the time go almost to the edge before making a move, on every street too. He would cheerfull chat while people where steaming, calling him names, pleading etc saying stuff like its good to take it slow. God, I hated that guy lol but he took me and many others out before me because we where steaming.

I think if it the bubble of a mtt you can forgive a ss for using his time, I have even had people use their time to help a shorty out a few times.

If its a small enough tourney where you could conceivably watch the other tables, it can make sense. Take a satellite, in hand for hand, you will be in the bb next hand for the rest of your chips. There are 3 tables left. You have ak. If you watch the other tables hand for hand, you can see if anyone loses before you, so you can know if you should make the gamble with ak that hand or just fold it so that you make the money.

I've seen them do it every hand. Then they fold. This may be the exception, not the rule.
