For some reason, I seem to be doing alot better on tournaments, yet whenever I play in Ring games I never seem to be able to find any improvement.

Anyone got any ideas why that may be.

Dont get me wrong, I prefer tournies anyway, and find them far more challenging but I would still like to be able to have some success playing cash games for small stakes.

Any advice or explanations why I find MTTs easier to play in.

The one thing I do find is that on MTTs I play much tighter and use alot more thought when calling raises. Whereas on a ring game, because I guess you can just rebuy I seem to take the risks more and bomb out terribly..

Gday mate. Just wanted to say that I am very similar to you in this aspect. I seem to be so much stronger at SnG's than I am and ring. I say, play where you are happy and have the best results. There's no right or wrong type of game to play. Do what your best at. I'd say personally you enjoy MTT's more which brings greater success. As long as your happy and doing well, nothing else should matter. If what your doing doen't make you happy, then there is a problem. If you really want to improve your ring game. Ask for help, post some hand histories for analysis, you'll find heaps of useful advise from the best of the best here. GL and have fun

actually since you are deepstacked in cash games you should be using a lot more thought on calling raises there, in MTT you usually only have 20-50bb vs 100bbs in cash games, where your decisions are very easy. You find mtt's easier to play because the decisions are easier, idk I may be wrong though. Cash games require more thinking and more I know he know multi level thinking games.

Personally, I play both, and feel that MTTs are much more luck dependent. People play them like the lottery, they want to double up or get knocked out and move onto the next one. There are not as many important decisions in a tournament early on (my opinion).

In a cash game, I think the play is better overall, and people are not as loose as they tend to be in MTTs.

These are my opinions, and I'm not saying that they are true.
-One win in a MTT could make a losing player think that they are better than they really are because one win is often 20 losses in value or more.
-Cash games are harder in general. They take much better post flop skills than a MTT.
-You often sit at the same table with players for much longer in a cash game than in a MTT. When people have 100 hands on you, you can't do the same things and not expect someone to catch on. In a MTT you might only sit with the same players for 50 or less hands.
-Losing players often lose more in the same time period playing cash games than tournaments. I've had down swings of $50 in a cash game session of .10/.25 NL, and I'm a winning player (although no expert). So I think losing $5 every time you play a MTT, and playing a 100, is often overlooked when you win every 50 times.
-SnGs in particular I find are extremely soft, a winning SnG player could be a losing Cash player.
-I think the cash games are often harder because more profit can be made hourly which attracts the better players.

Just some of the things I have personally noticed.

My guess it is state of mind, you dont play enough so maybe you get to aggressive or too tight. If you are doing well in tourneys then you know the game just sit back and be patient, find the strategy that works for you. I have always done better at ring games than multis myself, but when I first started playing cash games both live and online I would try to press the action too much anxious to get up. Dont worry about it, take your time. Online try sticking to six seated tables, as it is easier to keep grasps on everyone at the table.
