I was playing 1/2 NL at Harrah's in New Orleans in the summer. I had A-8 and flopped two pair (A-10-8). I bet $10 after the flop and turn and another guy kept calling. I was pretty sure I had him beat, so I bet $15 on the river. He waited about 15 seconds and then said, "You got me" and turned one of his cards over to show he had an ace but didn't reveal his other card. I didn't know what to do because he hadn't said call or fold, just flipped one of his cards over. I waited a few seconds and finally said, "Does this mean you are folding?" When I said that, he pushed his other card into the muck and said, "Good hand."

Was he trying to get me to reveal my hand before he declared his intention of calling or folding?

that`s a really strange play, call/call/fold with an ace and odds. If he called the flop and the turn, he has to call the river.

After his 15 second thinking, he turn over one card to see your reaction if he can detect such tell. Maybe he is at the point of surrendering and when you talked, probably sign for him youre confident and so he folded.

You should have sighed in relief like you believed he was folding and popped his arse.

Very interesting. It does seem a bit suspicious on the one hand. On the other hand, you have to ask yourself what exactly was he trying to accomplish with his actions. He may have been trying to see your reaction to the Ace before declaring his intention. Or perhaps thinking that his hand might be good, he wanted to see if you would muck your hand, in which case he could say that he meant to call, but if you turned over better he could say that he hadn't called, which he hadn't.

It was smart of you not to react and to ask him before you did anything. A lot of people would have made an assumption and then acted upon that assumption, leaving it up to someone else to interpret his intention and determine whether his hand was still live or not if, for instance, you thought that he was folding and then mucked your hand.

Nice hand.

I'm guessing he had a really bad kicker (2 or 3 since they weren't on the board), and he finally figured out I had him outkicked at the minimum. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but the more I started to mull it over, I was a little bugged at his actions. Needless to say I kept an eye on him the rest of the way, but he didn't do anything else that could be considered shady, so maybe he wasn't trying anything.

maybe had a strong kicker but thought that it wasn't strong enough, since yuo continued to bet he knew that he was behind on the river and wanted to show you that he's not a weak player and not bluffing. So when the next time that you play him he might want you to feel a little paranoid about playing him or think about what he as before you raise him. No biggie, but NH in this case :)

Only way it could be an angle is if you then mucked your hand or showed a weaker hand and he snap calls claiming he never folded.

But that didn't happen, so I think he was doing the car funeral and didn't wanna fold his A7
