Does anyone see the relationship between poker playing styles and the economy?People use their plastic(play money) to overextend and when reality hits declare bankrupt, start over.In poker throw good after bad, when luck runs out, bust out,go to cashier, get more play money and start over doing the same thing.Never learning anything. Is skill a lost art?:joyman:

I found out that it is more interesting and satisfying playing micro stakes ring games than play money....

Simply expressing an opinion,no expectations, just feedback, conversation, other opinions.I think the state of economy speaks for itself.I really dont believe in (shit happens) there is usually a cause.

PLay money is nothing more than bingo or the lottery.I think aot of people get on and play fake money just to piss other people off.No other excuse for going all in every hand with 7-2 off.

There's nothing to lose with play money. It's not as though you can build up play money to play a real money tourney or anything like that.:D

No disrespect meant,I too am disabled and retired, but I have a total of 9 months exp. playing poker.Im still learning.I wasnt disabled with a head injury. I have no problem getting beat Its suckerpunches that burn my hiney. And with all of the obvious cheating allowed on FT play money tables Its hard for me to beleive some smart people arent manipulating the real money tables.I plan to keep honing my SKILLS,but when I think Im ready I will probably take my monet to winstar for live poker.

What do you mean they are cheating? And if they are, why would they bother? It's play money.

You can get some sort of decent games going if you buy-in for more than the amount that people can easily reload to. Challenge yourself to practice bankroll management and never go broke. Just build and play in more expensive games and you'll find better players. Not everyone plays a game to win money, some just want to win period, money or not. I learned this way and feel like it was time well spent. All the same considerations apply, pot odds, calculating outs, etc. I even think it's good if you can play the same when you move to real money, instead of worrying that it's real money and being too cautious.

wrong. you can build up your play money and use it to enter a real money torney. At full tilt. 500,000 play chip buy in though. Don't rember what the pay out is 1 or 2 hundred. But not to bad really because not a whole lot of people play in it.

So if you don't mide playing the fake at least your playing towards some thing. But remeber to still use some BRM. You don't want to get to half a mill then blow it all on 1 torney and have to start over with just a 1000.

Also when your playing with fake money just play super tight and shovve when you get a monster hand. Someone will always call at the low limits. Most of the time more than 1 will call so you can double trip up with 1 hand.

If you have that much free time to make like $5 or w/e it is, why not just get a job or work one extra hour? The heavy majority of play money play is not good, it's just not poker, because there's nothing to lose. Most likely you'll learn bad habits playing play money that will take even more time to adjust back to real money again. I just don't think playing play money really helps. If you want to have some fun or w/e with nothing to lose, fine. But then don't complain that the play sucks, because that's everyone else's attitude too.

I don't know how much real money you have to play for before people start playing real poker. Certainly the micro limits are hardly any better than play money. Well, they are, but they're still crazy. I just don't think I would advise beginners to buy-in to a decent game if they don't know what they're doing. Sure, it's good for the rest of us, but maybe that's why 80-90% of poker players lose money. Actually, I think it's better to learn for free, but learn the right way to beat those types of players -- don't copy them. Read books and join forums like this, then once you have a foundation, you can maybe move into real money without getting blasted.

Even freerolls (at least when you get past the first little bit) play much better than play money games. The 1c/2c games are leaps and bounds ahead of play money games. Last I played them the play money games literally would usually have 3-4 people all-in preflop every hand. Problem is a strategy of sitting back and waiting for like QQ+/AK and pushing all-in will probably beat the play money games and is probably the best strategy. It's not going to work in real poker though.

Playing for play money can teach you some poker basics, but you will be better off playing for 1$ or so with your friends. Many times people will go all-in holding as much as a Qx, so almost no sensible strategy could be tested.
