Cash games really are getting emotional with me. I'm down overall and past couple of days have been the worse because of bad beats. Sets crushed by all sorts of ranges.

I had a thread where saying I was getting called by garbabe and when I finally get Aces or Kings they either get over turned OR, for example it feels I always run into Aces when i get Ace/King or Kings/Queens. Mine never seem to hold up and when I get aces I get owned.

So an example, I took everyones advice and raised more than 3xBB with Aces..and majoirty of the time people folded like i thought they would so getting nothing my my top pair. I finally got a call.. after a raised 7x BB..

Board was rainbow and i had $4.00 on 2nl. Flop was 5,6,8,. I bet the pot sized so even if he did have a drawing hand he had to fold. Which i kinda of ruled out because surely he woulden't of called a raise pre-flop with of suited 7,9 or so surely? He re-raised all-in so I assumed if I'm beat here by a set I'm not bothered nothing I can do. I honestly thought he was making a play for it. So I called and he turned over Queen,9.

Turn was a 7,river was a king. So he would with a straight and i got that mad i said "wtf? Are you serious?" He said I know what I'm doing stop crying, cry baby. That was it I was on one. The bad beat effected me and but i wasn't tilting i was still trying to play my game and told myself bad beats happen.

I surely can make back my $4 with strong play..

Twice after flop with pairs i hit sets ( i was multitabling) I coulden't lie them down and all-ins on a not so dangerous board Again to be out done by straights. I was FUMING.. I end up typing some rubbish and show my anger. Anyway it gets me that mad i feel like if i could I'd drag the C***Ts through the monitor and leather them. Its only a few dollars and I'v lost a hell of a lot more through gambling but with poker it seems to effect me soooo bad. I think it's because i was to have some positive stats or so and I'm a stat whore i dont know exactly. It wasn't as if they hit the nuts on the flop with suited connectors or so which they orginally called my raises with (which they shoulden't really be doing anyway?) It's they had maybe 4 outs... and my sets are overturned by absolute rubbish!

Or I'm beginning to think cash games really aren't for me. Over a session i can usually break even..but with cash rewards vpps etc make a profit but this has put a dent in me. I continued to blow around $25 in total and know I'v got a feeling i dont want to play Poker any more. It puts me on such a downer....what do I do? It took me ages to build a roll etc. I did have $105 now I had $83...I enjoy the game very much and play for hours even if I'm just break even its when i take a hit like this it depresses me!

What is wrong with me?

I have proceeded to play badly in SnG's/MTT to now and getting chips all-in for no reason at all. Major tilt? It feels now after earning quite a few FPP's playing micro limits that I'm going to stuggle to get back into the tournament mode yet i know i perform much better at SnG's/MTT.. It's like I dont have the patience for a tournament as i love the speed of cash games and when you can quit playing. I just can't bear the swings, espically when you do have the best hand get your chips in and a favourite to be over turned at micro levels. Then when I'm sure i have best hand, noone raises me and folds to a slight bet...Drives me mad!!!!!!!1

PS: Sorry if it doesn't make sense but I'm that annoyed i can't be bothered typing properly.

That's part of the reason I've been drawn to limit holdem.

No matter what happens to me, there's a limit to how bad it can be.

I definately get emotional, but remember, it's all about not letting emotions configure into your play. Just play your game'.

okay, ive been way past this, i used to dream(while sleeping) about getting outdrawn, making wrong calls, etc. I was losing my sanity. At this time i saw on tv andrew black talking about Zen and the art of poker, helping his game-playing in the moment, so i bought it and read it. I suggest you do the same. When i start spiring down, get major tilted, emotional, i read it again. Always helps.

Well i know it feeling, i m an usual PLO/Hi-Lo player , so you can imagine how variance and donk plays affect me,usually i tend to listen to soft music and just try to remain focused , but when i feel that i m really tilting i just stop playing, i think it s the best way.

IMHO This is one of the biggest obstacles for MANY players, including me.

We have to learn to become emotionally unattached and base our level of play off of actual desicions instead of profit.

Ive already started. Its easier to type it.

You have to look at poker not as how much money your winning/losing, but rather just use your br as a way to "keep score". Of course your going to get emotional when gambling real money. It's the attitude when you get beat that seperates the good from the great.

I tend to keep a bowl of some fresh medicinal smoke next to me to ease the pain and get back on track after getting felted by a 2 outer or something.

If not I tilt. BTW, works good for back pain too:)

I can handle a bad beat. But the third time in a row of losing after being 80%+ to win gets me so F%$^&ing mad it affects my game for the next week or so. So yes, I don't think you are alone my friend. :)

That is all part of the game, we all tilt here and there.
Atlanta suggested limit, you can try it, but to me those players treat it like a drawing game and it tilts me more, but it may work for you, it does work for alot of members.
You have to be able to reset. I do that better in the ring games, the tourneys tilt me beyond belief.
Good luck.

Time for a breather

Ramdeebam, you are definitely not alone in feeling this way. I think that lousy feeling starts with the bad beats. Then we get tilted from that and start playing less well. That leads to more losses and a full-blown tilt fest is on! I know with me I get that feeling that I deserve to win, dammit. That sprinkles on even more tilt.

My suggestion (easy to say and hard to do) is to take a break. Get some physical exercise, read a book, watch TV, sing out loud in the shower. Just don't play poker until your head clears.

Oh yes, and breathe deeply. A lot. It'll get better.

divorcing your emotion from short term results is so important. all that mental energy you are wasting on feeling hard done by in a hand is energy required to employ logic in making the best possible play at every decision point. if you got your money in good (but lose), you can feel good. every chance you get to prove that your edge exists should lift your confidence.

I fight this situation all the time. Some days I do good, some days bad.
I've done many of the same things you talk about. Raise with trips, lose with flush to a higher card in the hole, being raised, raised, raised when I think I have the nuts, then BOOM I lose. Some things are Awfully Simple and some things are Simply Awful. I get many Simply Awful hands.

The only cure for this is to keep playing thousands and thousands of hands until you become numb to bad beats. You should neither get excited when you win or upset when you lose. Just focus on making correct decisions and the results will come. I've lost with AA the last three times I got my stack in. It happens. The only thing that should upset you is if you know you played badly, even if you got lucky and won. When you win or lose a big hand go back and review the hand history and look to see if you played the hand correctly. If you did then the outcome is irrelevant. If you played poorly then try and figure out how and devise a way to correct that behavior. The reward that Poker offers is this: you make the best possible assumption about your opponents cards based on their stats and betting and then figure out the best play and do it. If you are doing this correctly you will be a long term winner if you practice proper bankroll management.
