I'm from Australia however, just landed in the US. Trying to beat jetlag by staying awake. I downloaded pokerstars just after landing so it must have put me in the US. Maybe if I try and set my search back to AU it might give me the download that I need?
If you are in the US then you won't be able to play for real money on stars, its restricted based on location. While in the US you have other choices of sites you could playon though (unless you are in a state with regulated poker like
New Jersey and nevada, two that come to top of my head lol):
Blackchip Poker, Americas Cardroom
Bovoda (although its only us or
canada so won't be able to play on there outside of these locations, although it has the best traffic of all us available sites)
Carbon Poker
Full Flush poker (if you sign up through the cc link you can get access to a 100$ freeroll that runs every monday night at 8pm et)
You can find all the sites affiliated with cc here:
https://www.cardschat.com/announcement.php?f=13
and reviews on sites can be found here:

hope all this helps. Have you moved to the us permanently or just a business/vacation trip? Cardschat has all kinds of promotions running currently as its their 10th anniversary this month, and they have loads of
freerolls on a regular basis on both us and non-us facing sites for regular participating members of the forum (once you have reach a 65+ quality post count and a minimum of a months activity you can apply to be part of the freeroll club).
Anyhow I'll stop going on and hopefully all this will help direct you to find a place to play.
