howdyyy... not sure if i am using correct criteria for getting a question answered. just learned what a computer was yesterday and these 2 lines have taken about 2 minutes to type.i am learning on bodog, the players seem clueless & ive even placed top 20 in a freeroll... problem is this: will be playing a s&g & taking down pots with hands that are the tits; rollin and a wheelin, stealin and a dealin, playing solid and careful. many times after winning a nice pot with a good starting hand ive noticed many times the very next hand or 2 i will ba dealt a rag hand [9 2 os],etc, which i muck. SO MANY TIMES those rags are the stone nuts and i could have won with them as well. should i be playing these rags more often? is it afluke or is the software trying to reward me for playing solidly by allowing me to win with bad hands? ive observed good players taking down pots with trash hands, they just dump em early if they dont hit.is yhis the key? or should i just focus on good starters? thanks, love, lee. Play the rags and see what happens. What looks like the nuts on the flop will turn into the 2nd best hand by the river a lot of the time. That's one of the reasons not to play trash hands.

A good example is if you play trash and flop 2 pair. You have a high potential for someone to have a better 2 pair.

Every hand can win preflop. As I'm typing this I'm in a sit n go with a guy playin every hand calling every raise. He's beat me 3 times on the river and it's pissing me off, but I know he can't do it every time and someone will get him. Fold your rag hands and save the money for a better hand-you lose a lot over time playing crap. Another thing to think about is your image. If you get caught playing crap too many times you'll be stuck playing only your good hands. If you try a position bluff you're more likely to get reraised because they know you'll play 9 4 or 10 2,and you'll either lose a bunch or have to keep folding away your money. And the guy I just told you about- I pushed on the flop a couple times when he raised preflop and he folded his money to me, and got knocked out first. He raised with J 3 and got destroyed by a guy with AA.

There are certainly times to play so called trash hands, but it's more about position, table image, position, stack sizes, position, your reads on those acting after you, position & such. Starting out it much better to stick to premium hands. When you get a trash hand & fold, try focusing on the players still in the hand & their actions rather than the community cards & what sort of hand you would have made.
good luck at the tables.

position and observing

There are those nights where it seems like many hands you fold would have been the winning hand. But your still beter off to play the odds and be aware of position and the actions of the other players at the table. Take advantage of opportunities to steal pots, but don't commit all your chips or too many chips on such risks.

Play a variety of hands and mix up your play. Don't allow you opponents to get a good read on your style of play. Always be aware of the image you are portraying at the table.

Be nice dude, he's not a rigtard, just a total newbie wondering. What, you never wondered about online poker's honesty when you didn't know ANYTHING about it?

Honestly I have asked this before and I will ask it again. Does anyone really think that the online sites do NOT have people playing on their behalf. Of course they do. Just like the casinos do. This is not anything new. It is part of the business. It is not rigged software or cheating it is just the way it is done.

To answer the original question. I give most points to anyone that replied and said that position should determine if you play rags. If you are on the button and it is folded to you there is a steal opportunity. If the blinds call or re raise then you have to play the rest of the hand very cautiously. You have position here and you can see what happens after the flop.

I think you play a little loose, but only with pots that are cheap. If you get lucky and hit a big hand and win, maybe than can you wait for the big hand because than you have the chips to wait.

play the man not the cards.

with that being said, no the software is not rigged, and yes fold bad hands.

Don't be so results orientated.
