Registration Hack: How to Avoid Queues for WSOP Events

3 min read

The 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) has been full of stories and, with the Main Event starting today, many more will be written over the next week or so. A popular talking point so far, and one that could affect the WSOP Main Event, is the registration situation.

Multiple attendance records have been broken this year. For example, the $1,500 Millionaire Maker attracted 10,416 entrants to become the biggest live event of its kind. Processing that number of entry slips is far from easy but, overall, the WSOP’s team have handled things well.

However, despite their best efforts, members of staff at Paris Casino and the Horseshoe haven’t been able to prevent registration lines from reaching epic lengths. To see what we mean, you can check out Daniel Negreanu’s latest vlog.

Colossal queues for the WSOP Colossus

Skip to 10:35 in the video below to see the queue for this year’s WSOP Colossus. You can hear Negreanu telling one poker player that the line isn’t that long before he’s politely informed that the entire room is the queue.

We later learn that the waiting time to register for the WSOP Colossus was two hours. Such was its size that break times for other events were being moved around to prevent an even bigger pile up in the hallways.

The $400 Colossus ended up with a total of 15,894 entrants, which is a staggering number and a testament to the event’s appeal. Moreover, it’s a testament to the enduring allure of the WSOP. However, for those stuck in seemingly endless lines, the popularity of this year’s WSOP is far from ideal.

Of course, long queues are inevitable when so many people want to play and the organizers are doing their best to accommodate everyone. However, new systems might be necessary next year if the Series continues to grow. The acid test as to whether or not changes need to be made will come this week as the WSOP Main Event gets underway.

How to avoid WSOP registration delays

The organizers have already said the Main Event record will be broken this year, but the number of entrants might not be as high as it could be if the lines are too long. Although most players will be willing to wait for a spot in the Main Event, some might decide it’s not worth it. That would be unfortunate.

The WSOP is poker’s biggest event, so making the system as efficient as possible is a priority. The good news is that everyone knows that. The organizers are constantly refining their operations and poker pros are always thinking of ways to get maximum value.

Indeed, anyone who’s at the WSOP and looking to avoid long lines of people can try Lynne Ji’s advice. She suggests using the Bravo poker app, pre-depositing money at the cage, then registering online.

Whether this WSOP hack works for the Main Event remains to be seen. However, it’s worth a shot if you want to play in poker’s biggest tournament without having to wait in line for hours.
