Hello!

What is the difference between deep stack tournaments and regular or turbo tournaments?

Thanks:jd4:

You mean tournaments labeled as "deep stack"? They basically just start with a deeper stack than normal tournaments. For instance it might be 5.000 chips with 30/20 blinds, so that a starting stack is 167BB rather than 3.000 chips, which makes a starting stack 100BB. Turbo refer to, how fast the blinds then go up. Anything shorter than 8 minutes is usually considered turbo.

A "deep stack turbo", which 888 Poker has some of, is kind of a conundrum. They start with deep stacks, but then stacks get short later, because blinds go up quickly giving players less time to accumulate chips or bust. "Deep turbo" seem to be not all that popular on 888, so maybe they are the answer to a question, nobody ever asked :)

Personally I just play, whatever is within my bankroll, and adjust to the stack depth in play. Very few players show up on time anyway, so in a sense the first few blind levels of a tournament are not that important. They also do not last very long, so the "turbo" part tend to take precedence over the "deep" part in these tournaments.
