Tournament Play question

its about tournament play.. say blinds are at 1000 ,2000 and utg1 has 500 left goes all in it folds all the way to small blind who folds and big blind unknowingly mucks because he thought it would have cost him more than the blinds. how is the money dispersed?? does any of that make sense?
