I just got a new job. My plan is to build a bankroll and go for a run strictly in tournaments. My local casino (Maryland Live) offers a $130 tournament and i think that is the cheapest buy in. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

you should try online pokerstars , tournament with buy-ins of 5,5 $ , 4.4$ , maybe higher and especially give it a try to bounty builders , you should be able to make a bankroll very easy :)

Its hard to give advise without knowing more about you. Are you new to the game or have been playing and studying for 20 years? Have you had success in poker and in tournaments? Are you properly bankrolled to play these games? a good bankroll would be 13K to 19.5K for the $130 games. You just got a new job and that's good but depending on what your making you many not even be bringing home daily enough to play a tournament. Can you really afford to play these games?

So i will give some advise. Don't rush into this. Really make sure you up to and skilled enough for the level your going to play. Trust me I get what you want to do and wish i was in a area like you that had games at that buy in level to play. I was looking to take a shot just as covid hit. It would have been with discretionary money that if I lost would not have hurt my family. What ever you decide, make sure your living expenses are taken care of 1st. Don,t risk money you cant afford to lose. Remember the money swings can be huge. How would you feel after a 40 game ($5,200) no cash streak downturn? Also remember this, most people lose money at this game. Take it slow and be careful mate.

If you do this you must treat it like a business. Document all you winnings and expenses.

If it sounds like I am discourage you I am sorry. I just want to make sure you are prepared and know the odds are not in a lot of peoples favor.

The thought of making money easily sitting at a table and doing what you love and in the end leaving with extra money in your wallet is often misleading! You have to take into account all your monthly expenses plus the unforeseen ones and if you still have money for a tournament in one evening it is very good, however I would not enter the tournament from the first day but I would go there for a few days and I would look, if possible, at how things are going and what kind of players are there. Usually, in small casinos they play about the same because that's how players get used to each other, or they play risky or very tight, you have to be careful about what happens in that location ... after you take your "notes" you can to try the game yourself. Good luck!

Thank you bro. I appreciate the honesty in your reply. It is blunt and direct and it gives me a different perspective. That is a LOT of bread!!!! 13-17k??? Dude im definitely gonna need to reevaluate things. I wouldn't be able to stack that kind of money up in a few months. It would probably take me a year to pay bills and liv. expenses while trying to save up an amount that large.

At the poker club where I played, they changed the entrances and that's why I stopped. I can't afford BR for now who will endure a bad series. I am slowly building BR online with freerolls, so in case of winnings I will leave one part for live games. The results for the month are better than expected, but I am not satisfied. The reason is that with the game I showed last month, the earnings should have been higher, but that's poker

I would personally spend a few months cramming in the hours in your new job and after paying off your bills, do as little as possible. Hopefully by then you would have a few extra thousand sitting around your account, i would withdraw that and use that as mybankroll, keep it safe in your home and start on smaller tourneys.
