I don't know if it's an impression, but I notice that in the final moments of online tournaments, in the showndown the biggest stack seems to be favored most of the time.
You would need to review a very large number of hands in these situations before being able to come to any kind of conclusion. Memories can be selective which is why we tend to remember all the times we lost with AA and forget most of the times where we won.
In my selective memory, it seems more likely to me that the short stacks keep doubling up when I want them to bust so that we can have the pay jumps.
