Playing for set against low stacks eg 15 blinds, 20 blinds is a bad play in the long run because only 12% of the time you will hit your set and win the hand.

The ideal to play the low and medium pairs is you and your opponent have a lot of chips, if you hit your set you can extract a lot of chips from your opponent or even try to bluff if it is opportune in the hand played.

A good rule of thumb is to only call a bet for set mining if it's 15-20x under the effective stack.

Maths is one of the critical factors in this game. It is one of the main pillars of our game. If you ignor maths then your game is in a critical danger.

To many poker [layers forget the math part of the game. I have recently seen player set min with something like 6BB stack after calling a raise. I have seen people call with draws on the turn all in thats the math says should be folded due to the bet size. No matter how you feel witll happen or hope if the math says you should fold you should fold and call when correct.

That's assuming you need to make the set to win the hand.

I would recommend #1 poker theorist David Sklansky's Poker Math from the Pro, a bible for beginners and experienced players alike. She examines the use of mathematics in the game at an expert level, giving examples of almost all possible game situations. The book describes not only hold'em but also almost all other poker variants: 7 Card Stud, 5 Card Draw, Razz. Not every one of them will be useful in practice, but a broad overview helps to better understand how probabilities appear, how they change over the course of the hand and influence decisions.

Its hard to win if you are fighting against math. If you do things like high blind limp, call shoves deep with AJ, etc you are fighting against math.

Reading people has always been my strong point. Hard to read people when they're not really their. To bad they don't implement cameras or selfie cameras during certain tournaments.
