The strategy of registering late in a tournament is not good, because the tournament progressed a lot and have lost many good games.

This is the reason I dont like neither Rebuy tournaments or that you can jump into a tournament late. I think it is unfair when you jump in late in a game, simply because you havent the same conditions as the other players. And Rebuy for me is the same as a game for donks. :)

If the buy-in is cheap enough, and the guarantee good enough, and the add-on big enough, then either figure a very late buy-in or 10x the buy-in as the cost to get to the 2nd phase of the game, which IMHO more closely approximates decent poker.

I avoid rebuy's for the most part these days. On-line or live. In live rebuys, I can't compete with folks who have $1000 wads in their pockets for $40 games, and I wouldn't have believed that was the case if I hadn't seen it happen more than a few times. Re-entries are a bit better, mainly because one has to get up and go re-register for the tourney, and in those few minutes they have a chance to re-consider.

A local casino has free entry tourneys, with $10 fees and almost unlimited rebuys at the table, up to 4 rebuys at a time. This game starts with a $3K guarantee, and never fails to cover that guarantee. Seldom more than about 90 players means each player rebuys, on average, 3 times and buys the add-on.

'Free' seldom costs so much.

I was regularly doing the cheap online rebuys, until I started live and realized that my original foray into online poker and tourneys were fueled by the limited risk nature of tourneys. Those pure limited risk tourneys are becoming rare these days, and trying to use that limited risk mentality by promising myself I would only do the original buy-in and the add-on, usually cause me more frustration than I care for.

I do expect all tourneys, both live and online, to become re-entry games, which will make the casino's those extra tourney fees, in the very near future.

wow, the add on is huge, compared to a rebuy. I think it a is a good strategy in this tournament, but in omst it isn't. How far are you to the bubble when you do this? And what is usuallythe average chips. I think you will be way behind the average chips, because everybody will be buying the add on

When the addon is that big, its a good idea to late reg. You dont want to waste $ trying to build a stack when you can addon and the difference wont be that big.

I have done this many times in other turnys, and cashed in 75% of them. Most players that started the turny will either have the average stack by that time, or very short stacked, and most opt not to add-on, for some reason or another. Regardless, waiting until the last minute to enter, then buying an add-on puts you right up in the upper 60% on average, without being tired and beat to death. A good advantage right off the bat.

Late Reg Strategy

I'm not late registering unless I have at least 25bb. I need a stack that will allow me to 3 bet without shoving off the bat.

I have played some of those games... I really think its better wait till the late reg time is ending and also get the add-on.

During the rebuy time people play like crazy... you need to play too tight there. And high probability of being donked.

Even if you get in top positions you get around 90K chips, plus the add-on you can get to 120K in 1,5 hours... while buying late you get 33K just 1/4 of chip leader... not to bad compared to 1.5 hours of tension and head aches, lol

There are a fair number of tournaments where late rebuy strategies have positive EV. Sometimes you find a tournament where you are sure to cash, or close to it, by buying in late.

With respect to these tournaments, I play on pokerstars the $ 1.10 rebuy. This tournament offers unlimited rebuy for 90 minutes for $ 1 for 3,000 chips and an addon of $ 1 per 30,000 chips.
Personally I register for the tournament on the cancellation of the registration, in this way I can spend only $ 3 with the addon included, because I think that from the tournament really starts addon. And I can assure you taken excellent results.

In PokerStars tournament 1+1,R in this register in 89 minutes for me is good strategy. I recommend to check this. Sometimes 1R and 1A or maks 2R and 1A is OK

how about that other tournament on PKR
its a daily $1 rebuy type tournament, the first hour is extremely fast 5 min blinds
but once the rebuy period is up, the blinds reset back to the first blind level, and this time you have 10 minute blinds

the strategy you are using here definately works on there.
(think its called the crazy dollar dash or something like that)

Once a player has won several tournaments and had some success, he suddenly begins to believe that appear to the top of the game and sit at the table in anticipation of an incomplete team tournament director to the top of the game - it's not cool.
I'm not a fan of late registration. In most cases, late registration - this is a mistake. In the early stages of the weaker players hand out a lot of chips, a sin not to take advantage of this free gift. But everything depends on the player. Some do not know how to play deep-stacked, for these players will really be more beneficial register for the tournament later. But on the other hand, you may well go to the start of the tournament and increase the starting stack at 10,000 -15,000 (at the starting stack to 30,000), but if you start to go in the fourth or fifth level, you can easily double.
Everyone makes their own choices!
