Most people tilt due to bad beats, I on the other hand tilt due to playing great or good. I run good and make all these winning hands and than next thing i now i start playing hands i normally wouldn't play thinking i can't be beat and than i am gone with no chips. I am most of the time when this happens chip leader. I don't know why i do this but i do it every time i play. Anyone else have this problem and how do you handle it when your playing in a tournament. I would win if i could get past this problem. any ideas how to do that?

Try to look at it this way - every new hand is like the new day - you cannot be sure what it will bring you. So don't put your expectations basing on the previous ones. Hope this helps!

If this helps but your probally heard this bunch of times is change gears brother and also check your stack and how
many BBs you got at the chip lead.
Sounds kinda dumb but it’s okay letttmg go marginal to mid premium when outta position on situational spots.

Main thing slow down brother and go from there. Gn

Hey.
I would not want to offend you, but if you constantly stack at the beginning of the tournament, it speaks of your unorganized game, of a lack of understanding of the theoretical foundations of poker. And of course, extraordinary luck or involuntary help from the poker room. As poker rooms, as a rule, help non-understanding players in their hand to tempt the player not to give up.
It simply means that you are a more intuitive player, and some theory that you don’t need will ruin the game more than it helps.

He didn't say it was in the beginning of the tournaments.

The first step in correcting this problem is knowing that you have it and admitting it. A lot of players doing what you are doing start blaming their losses on bad beats.

You lack discipline and that will take practice.

You should never change your strategy based on how many hands you are winning - unless it is against specific opponents where you are recognizing opportunities to open up your range.

I think its easy to be blinded by a combination if unreal "run good" and a big stack. The problem is you need to know when to real it in - sometimes i do the same thing, but its usually in the $10 freerolls when i get sort of burned out near the end.

What happens for me is i end up playing my Q8 suited (or whatever else marginal holding ive got) and i hit second pair on the flop, or even top pair, i dont let it go and then im out kicked. Or lets say my opponent has 88 and i flop the Q and turn an 8 - im just not folding there in a $10 freeroll. So yeah, hands you shouldnt be playing can build you a stack when you are running good, but they can cause it to go away just as quickly by getting you involved when there is no need.

100% So congratulations on identifying a weakness in your game! This is difficult for many many players which is why they will never make a career or even a marginal hobby out of poker. Reverse your thinking and see if it helps. Next time you find yourself in a chiplead scenario go hyper TAG and stay super tight and disciplined. Everyones going to want to take a shot at the chip leader. Everyone wants what they got. So see if that helps you from bleeding out like you normally would. Resist the urges to open your range. And only get it in when the odds are in your favor! Best of luck!

perhaps you are self-defeating in other aspects of your life as well and this is a personality trait you could work on?

I agree with debi, the first thing is to recognize that you have a problem or deficiencies in your game and the best thing to face is to continue practicing, they say that practice makes the teacher, never stop analyzing your games and correct your mistakes, that's will help a lot
