In theory how many times the starting stack do you need to auto-fold to the money?

In a simple sense you could say if 10% get paid I need 10x the starting stack. However that is not usually required. Curious if anyone has ever modeled it out from a math perspective or actually played this way?

There is no point of playing poker to cash for 1.4x the buy-in. That's not the right thinking. Be aggressive and put the pressure on others close to the money to have to risk losing their buy-in especially if you have their stack covered. But to answer your question it all depends if you're players regular speed, turbos, hypers, etc...

Hope this response helped :)

Each tournament has a different structure, so you can't use the same number for them all. The blind levels, rebuys, add ons, all those things affect the stack size to comfortably fold to the money.

I'm gonna have to go with the aggravating answer... It depends. All structures are different when you add in rebuys add ons it changes as well. You also have to factor in the overall nature of the other entries. I've played where a 5x starting stack made it to the min cash and also have played where a 15x starting stack didn't even make it to the bubble. I've learned over the years your better off to just stay and play. I know those pesky coolers will get you where you call off pre with AA and then your on the outside looking in thinking I should have just stepped away and auto folded to the money but we're poker players and no matter what anybody says we're competetive by nature. Go for the win!! Good luck at the tables.

Min cashing I must say is not for real poker players, there is not much sense on min cashing. We all have to aim to the max to prosper.

I play to win. I might fold more marginal hands but I won't fold a good hand just to try and finish in the money.

I play to get on the final table. That's where it's at as far as I am concerned. After I reach the final table than I can throw away hands if the risk is too high because the rewards at that point are high as well. In a satellite tournament I will compare my stack to the guy who is on the bubble. Than I will start comparing the average stack to the size of the bubble boy stack. When the size of my stack reaches the point that I call the "sweet spot", I will quit playing hands all together and start milking the clock.
