I am in the "Free Zone" How do I get Out??

Between the free games offered from Cards Chat and the Venom Free rolls offered at the ACR site I am playing approximately 30+ games a week for free.

I am purely enjoying these free games but investing 3 hours in a Omaha game and winning 9cents the wife thinks i'm nutz. lol. Sometimes I actually win a couple of dollars.

Sometimes days will go by winning nothing but it doesn't matter as they were Free.

Hence my dilemma. If I begin playing a $$ tournaments and lose money several days :eek::eek:.

I played in a $3.30 tournament but it seemed the competition was different and i didn't do well.

Back to the free zone. Maybe I'll escape some day.

:dontknow::dontknow:

I understand fully. I’ve been playing almost exclusively CardsChat freerolls for the past while. I’ll throw in a scattered $1.10 tournaments but I find players are both crazy and extremely rude/offensive. That said, I’ve enjoyed a decent run in the CardsChat freerolls lately, including a 2nd place last week for $42 as well as several $1 + scores.

As you said the time sink for this money is poor if you divide it on a per hour basis. But I ask you this. If you weren’t spending those hours playing poker what would you be doing? Excluding these covid times, you might have gone to a movie, sporting event, bar, etc where you would have spent a lot of money and had no choice of winning any money. So if this is your entertainment, you have to take the cost of other activities and say you “won” this much during those hours. 🤪

If you feel so comfortable, keep playing freerolls. I don't see that as a problem. The main thing is that you like it.

Yes I find Grate satisfaction but deep in the recesses of my brain I can't help but think how much more fun it would be if I could win some serious cash. I guess it is the Greed Factor.

Wow. You bring up a very good point. You've put my dlemma into prospective. If I wasn't home playing I might be at the Casino losing my butt playing Craps or Baccarat. Each game is minimum $25 per bet. You might have given me my ticket out of the Free Zone"

The important thing in the case that you decide to take the step towards microstakes, is that you ask yourself if you are going to play as recreational, or if you are going to seek to dedicate yourself fully to poker. Because if you have a steady job and poker is a hobby, you can just enjoy it and you're done. On the other hand, if your idea is to transform poker into a job, you should spend many hours studying to improve your skills and your mentality. As a recreational you can also spend time studying, but it is not mandatory since it will not be your money entry tool.

I used to be in the "Free zone" like you. My best advice to get out is reading books and watching videos. I spend 30%-50% to study and the rest I will practice. For example, I study in one day and play in the next one two or three days. When you have confidence you can play with real money. You will realize when you do exactly what you studied, the success will come to you.

First, let me start off by saying I have seen enough of your play in the CC freerolls to know you have talent. You play well and seem to make the right move in the right spot more often than not. Confidence is something that you will need to get out of the free zone and not be afraid to lose a little if you do. First thing you need to figure out is are you playing for fun, playing to make money or a combo of the two? No one ever brings up the combo of the two but I feel like I am in that category. I play mostly for fun but play the micros and still care if I win or not and just slowly try to build up some money that I can take off at the end of the year.

Next I would look for good value tournaments if you can find them. Try to avoid the ones with a crappy structure unless you are looking to play fast tournaments (nothing wrong with that if that is the case but mentioning it in case it isnt what you are looking for). One of my favs ( they dont always run lately) is the 28 center at noon eastern on ACR. It is a 1k guarantee which is not bad and if you lose it is 28 cents so how pissed can you get. The play is a little crazy but most micros will be like that. It is just something that you have to get used. If losing a little more than that wont bother you then there are some excellent tournies on ACR for $6.60. You just have to scope around and find one that fits your needs.

My overarching advice though would be to have confidence in yourself, determine why you are playing poker (fun vs money), and then whatever you decide enjoy it. If its not any fun then its not worth playing.

I agree that each player chooses the format of the game that is most suitable for them.

If you like to be playing in the freeroll continue. The important thing is that you do what you like. I'll tell you my case I don't like to play at fast tables for a few people, I like freeroll tournaments with a lot of people in the tournament. So I spend more time playing poker, which I like to do.

Venom step freerolls are a waste of time, the higher steps do not run.
