Hi everyone! I am planning to go and play my first ever live game - a 0+7 freeroll at the local casino. I have never played live before and I am more than a bit nervous. Nonetheless, playing a (probably small field) freeroll locally seems like a good idea so I don't feel tempted to spend more money than I can afford to loose in a cash game.

How was your first time playing live? Any tips on what I should definitely avoid that is not obvious (like not getting drunk, etc.)? Thanks for sharing your experiences!!

My first time playing live coincided with my first time playing poker. This is almost three years old. At the recommendation of my cousin, he gave me a little of what he knows about the rules of poker, like playing. Until for the first time I could not complain. I arrived in FT, I was in 6th place, with more than 250 players in a Freeroll tournament. Just did not raise better positions because I was overcome by fatigue, the tournament began at 3 pm and I was eliminated it was almost 2 am. I still left with a $ 250 prize money.

Great I hope you have fun and success on the live game ! A tip that might help you is to play with sunglasses and hat. It will harder to the other players to read you. If you get nervous it s normal it will be hard them to notice. And they will never know which direction you are looking at. You can check the other players reactions and try to read and see their tells.

First of all, play at the lowest possible bet. If it's a cache table then make a minimal purchase. I mean in such a size, in which you can easily lose. This will help you avoid unnecessary excitement. Sunglasses can help you learn opponents, their behavior at the table, I agree in this case with the previous comment. Well, most importantly, play super tight. This will give you more time to play live and gain valuable experience for the future.:bandit:

I am just afraid I might look incredibly silly. Here in the UK we are generally paranoid about calling attention or being laughed at. I shall think about it. :icon_pale

I haven't played live yet. But I want so much! I think all these tips about sunglasses - to the point! I just imagine my first live experience. I sit in sunglasses, I read all, I play tight and get high!
Good luck to you my friend and win them all there for us!)

All right. I finished 11th out of 43. Not too bad, I probably could have made it to the bubble if hadn't gotten so tired. I played OK. It was actually much friendlier and relaxed than I thought. They're all regulars, however, which caused a couple of poor reads from my side. I'm definitely going back, though. Cash games next time.

I like to intentionally force myself to take my time. Obviously don't be slow to the point of frustrating the table but at the same time, realize that taking the time to think through your game will not only help your thought process, but will also make the other people at the table start to second guess themselves

My first time playing live was really bad, I played tight, but very tight and I was being swallowed up without any reaction, so I started to complete the small blind, be more loose and take more fun.

GL!!

A great result for your first time. I do not know how to play live, under the gaze of strangers.

I did not play live tournaments, but I also really want to play, the main thing is not to get drunk and you need to concentrate very well on the game, wait for a good card and try to win, I wish you luck in the tournament!

My first time playing live in a cansino in vegas was quite an exsperence, was doing very well in the begining until the free drinks
took toll on your judgement. If you can afford it keep playing live and
good luck at the tables.

Just went back today for a cash game £.25/.50 and sat down with £30 = 60BB. It was fun and some of the players were getting seriously drunk as the game went on. I'm very happy that I finished with 76BB after dipping to 22BB in only 2.5 hours.

The guys put me in a few tough spots however and one of them donked all in pre-flop twice with rubbish hitting a straight both times. Else I would have finished even better (had to split a pot where I made a set with KK and one I raised and folded with 33 that were good against the other player who then called and lost).

I am proud that I managed to play decent hands, folded two pair and QQ against heavy action with an Ace out on the flop (only one of which I would have won at showdown). It was great fun and I can only recommend it - already waiting for next weekend =D

Don't be nervous, the other players will appreciate the fact that it's your first time playing live. Trust me!

I prefer live honestly. Obviously you do not see near as many hands but I like having chips in front of me. Looking at my opponents, and just the atmosphere in general.
