So, we are playing in a $75 ($25 Bounty) tournament at Hollywood Casino in St. Louis. 1st place is $850 with just 7 players left. Only 5 getting paid. With blinds at 10k/20k & 500 ante I currently have 4 Bounty's & in the BB with an average stack. Short stack open shoves in the cut off for 55,000. I look down at 8c8s. Anyway I can fold this legitimately?

He just shoved last hand with no callers.

i would fold myself but that might not be the corect play-with only 7 ppl left at ft-im playing for the win-even if that means folding in this spot to wait for a better spot to call all-in -with average stack no sence risking a good piece of it on 8-8

First of all the tournament structure is really bad... anyway let's go to the hand.

Of course you call... You can call with 23o as well...

55k is 2.5bb and you have already posted 1bb so...

You put 1.5bb to get 6... You have the odds to do that with any 2 cards. Pocket 8s sounds like nuts. I believe that worse scenario is 52-48 on your advantage. He can do that with any Ax (where x might be lower than 9) and you are in front.. he shoves all small pockets

But it's 1.5 to 6... Bounty and big step for the top3 places. If you lose... Nothing is finished.

If the above is correct you absolutely must call.
I think you got something wrong in your info if he just shoved with no callers he shouldn't have only 55K.

I'm not sure what game you are playing if you fold in that kind of position regardless of what cards you have. Your in the BB with 20k into a 88,000 chip pot only needing to call another 35 to play. It would have been a snap call for me with 88.

OP is leaving out one important detail. What is the size of your stack?

Also, I don't think the blinds are 10/20 with a 500 ante. I think the blinds are probably 1/2 with a 500 ante, which explains his dilemma. If it's 10/20, then the ante would be 5k, not 500.

Once we find out his stack size, then we could make a better answer.

I agree stack size is always a consideration, but I don't think it matters at that point.

Villain shoves with 55k, your in the bb for 20k and have a medium pair. I'm not sure how you fold regardless of your stack size. What hand are you going to wait for? You are calling most likely a coin flip for 2.5 blinds with a chance to bust someone out.

Blinds & Ante were correct. These tourneys always wind up shove or fold when at the Final Table as there are only 600k to 1m chips in play and blinds at 10k/20k or 15k/30k.

I called and he rivered a K. Holding KQoff. He busted shortly after and we chopped 4 ways.
