Have you ever witnessed extremely bad luck from an opponent and felt bad for him. Or is it every man/woman for himself at the table?

I was playing the $33 Big Fish on 888 yesterday when a player lost a very heathly stack over the course of 3 or 4 hands. I cracked his Kings with QQ and then a few hands later his AA lost to KK. Tournament poker is cruel sometimes.

The only time I feel bad for an opponent... or lets say, sorry for. Is when playing live poker, If I'm having a decent conversation with one of the other players and then flop a crusher against him/her. Or get in bad and catch a 1 or 2 outer.

It's like, I'm trying to make a new friend, and at the same time crushing his spirit. Even then I rarely say sorry, cause I know I get bad beats too, but I do get a bit of the feels... as I rake in the chips

Online? Screw em. LOL :icon_tong:icon_tong:icon_tong - Nameless faceless bots - as far as I'm concerned - that need to be taken down a peg.

Always I've been on that side plenty. Unless they are playing real bad or being an ass.

Sure, sometimes. When I have been on a table a few rounds, I feel I know these players. Some are playing for fun and limp in every chance they get. Some are playing overly aggressive and trying to push players out each hand. Some are timid as an indoor cat let outside and will fold unless they flop the nuts. Then you have tight players that come in strong and will not leave their hands for any reason. I have no sympathy for any of these.

But then you get players that you know are good. They play good cards in good position, only occasionally bluff, and don't get intimidated by the more aggressive players. When one of these good players have a showdown with an obviously lesser player, I sometimes root for the better. I know I should be supporting the lesser player, the one I want to go up against.

In an online game, a random number generator can wind up combinations in such a way that you no longer have to be surprised. Favorites may change instantly. I'm used to it and I look at it calmly. Only those moments are pleasing when a player who is unsympathetic to me flies out of the game:cool:

Other people's misfortune has a tonic effect on me since it makes my situation look better by comparison, what bothers me most is other people's success, my heart almost bursts with envy :)

I sympathize with an opponent when in my opinion a good player loses to a donk in some ridiculous hand. That doesn't include battle of premium hands or some cooler, just when really stupid play of a donk gets rewarded.

The enemy must be hated and not have any sympathy for him. There should be only one winner in a battle. May the soul of my opponent rest in peace.

After having so many bad beats, my sympathy tank is empty. That's how the game is, sometimes it's nice sometimes it's merciless. I don't take it personally anymore, but i'm not sympathetic either.

After so many bad beats my sympathy tank is on empty, I don't feel bad nor I expect someone to feel bad for me in return. Variation is part of the game, if you take every bad beat personally you will go insane playing this game.

I'm not understanding the response here. I keep seeing people posting "good luck" on here, yet at the same time players being referred to as faceless bots. So do you really wish these faceless bots good luck or is it just lip service?

Hi
No sympathies non at all...
It's a game.
You must win or lose depending on your game plan.
So why feel bad if you win or someone loses.
That's what you are here to do, you wish people good luck as a good will, say sorry Ina bad beat etc... But that is your well mannered personality.

Sometimes

Sometimes in live poker I do feel sorry or bad for beating a fellow player.
