Hey all
I play a lot of SNGs or small MTT tournaments. I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion on, when you are short stacked, is it better to push with a AX or some kind of mid suited connector? I feel like I tend to run better when I push with the connectoes because then at least I usually have some live cards, where as if I push with a suited Ace rag I'm often out matched. I'm wondering if this is just my perception, or if it really is the smarter play to make

I watched a video on youtube where Phil Helmuth explains how suited connectors are ONLY GOOD if your getting a very good price to call, or if your in the blinds. You look at them and think "i can get a straight or a flush !!!", but odds are, your not going to. and even if you do hit a flush, you will often get beat by a higher flush draw.

so basically, ya. Ace rag is way better than some random suited connector.

the exceptions are KQ and AK suited (obviously )

Take an Odds Calculator and run it through. Assuming your Range for suited connectors is 45s-TJs and their Calling Range is 88+/AJs+/AQo+, you have 31% equity.

Assuming your Range for A-Rags is A2-A9, your Equity vs their Calling Range is 26%. So under those Circumstances, suited Connectors are slightly better, but when you are really short, you should go with what ever you get.

Ace rag is usually the way to go. it is irritating to lose with QQ to Ace rag but somehow it happens more often

I understand what you are saying, but I'm talking in dire situations. Considering what people are calling a short stack all in with (8s or better and A10+ maybe even KJ, KQ) Im wondering if Im better to get it in with live cards instead of A rag because I will usually be called by a better ace

I'm not a fan of A/rag at any time because if I do hit my ace, and there are still bettors, I know they probably have a better kicker. Suited connectors in the mid range are better, because there's a chance for flush, straight and a decent pair if you hit....4,5 does not look appetizing.

Both can be ok to shove with to pick up chips , when you start to get short then you should be shoving both the good suited connecters and good paint / aces . In mtts at some point you just have to win flips / 60:40s to win the tournament .

I'd rather push when I'm short stack with +A7, +A9o, +77, + K8s, +KJs

I suggest you to read Lee Nelson Book "Kill Everyone" and for pushing "Kill Phil". In them you'll find many good explanation which will guides you in which position and against which opponents you can call, push or fold your hand. You will find a good tables with hands for your Power numbers(Power numbers you determined based on your stack size) that will help you to determine should you push or fold, especial if you are short stack. My suggestion is to start with Kill Everyone to get foundation and then move on Kill Phil. Kill Everyone is for all play, call, push, raise and 3-bet, move in, while Kill Phil the basic concept is on pish in.
I have read Kill Everyone and I greatly improved my game, 56s is my new weapon.

I think it's not bad to push with ace rag when you are short stacked because you will most of the time have three immediate outs when you get called.

I think that if you have smoll stack and your fold equity goes 0% and you are on EP you must pushed hands tipical 75s. It is better then A5os. But if you on button sometimes you must pushed A2os
