Hello everyone,,

The wsop circuit is coming to Biloxi in December, and the casino is hosting a few satellite tournaments where the first couple spots win a free seat to the main event. I am thinking about driving to one of the satellite tournaments next week.

I am a new player (started about 6 months ago), and to be honest, not all that good. My plan was to treat this as a fun learning experience as I don't expect to win.

However, I am concerned that I will be so outclassed that it isn't worth the drive or the money to play. It will take about 3hrs each way to drive and the tournament is $75. Has anyone played these satellites before and have thoughts on playing them?

IMHO, nope, you're not wasting your time.

Even if you don't get it, you learn something new.

If you're new to the poker, I would highly suggest to read few of thsoe Poker strategy articles (on top of every CC Page) and start from there.

If you have any other question, ask...

I think there are better ways to spend your time than driving 6 hours for a $75 satellite.
I can tell you these satellites are usually structured in a way that a lot of luck is needed. I call them crap-shoots.
My personal opinion is you would be better off taking your $75, gas money, and food money and buying into several online tournaments with big guarantees and better structures.
If you want to go just for the experience and sightseeing that is one thing but I would not drive that far for a crap-shoot satellite.... Says the guy who has driven from Florida to Las Vegas and back twice in the last 6 months lol.
Good Luck :)

Enjoy the game just make sure you have enough petrol in the tank and food in the fridge for when you get back in case a cashgame or some other distraction causes loss and start playing expecting to win good luck.:)

I think the drive is too long to go just for the satellite.

But if you can spend 2 or 3 days there on a long holiday weekend and play a couple of daily tournaments and maybe some cash games - then it could be worth it.

As to the value of the WSOP Circ satellites - I don't know the structure of the tournie you are looking at but they are generally turbos and you don't start with that many chips. Personally I won't play them (after just running bad in a couple). But I don't want to discourage you from trying one and winning a seat.

If you play it then please give us a report.

I do recommend buying into lower cost circuit events and getting your feet wet.
Good luck !

Hopefully, if you do not win in the tournament, you can at least win your $75 back in a ring game.

The prospects of winning such a tournament are very low, but you should play this tournament as an experience, without taking it too seriously otherwise you will get this feeling even if you are wasting time

If you're new at the game, I wouldn't encourage you to play. Now saying that if you're just going to have fun and learn a little, by all means go.

I go 75 miles one way to play in a $65 tournament. Usually 80 to 100 players. I go to have fun, not expecting to win or to lose. It's like a mini one day vacation that I treat myself with. I haven't been in a year or two due to illness.

If you go, have fun and good luck!

It can't be a waste of your time if you enjoy playing poker and are playing for fun. But if your goal is to turn a profit, it would be a waste of both time and money because you will be out classed big time and your chances of winning something are slim.
