for some days now i get a really strong early game , but i noticed that after exactly 5 hours of play , i cant concentrate anymore , i start making many mistakes and at some time i just want to finish this torture and give up , anybody got some advices for long sessions ? how to keep concentrated ? maybe few tips to do while playing , its frustrating to get an edge on other players then throw it hours later :(

Definitely get up during breaks and step away from your computer. Don't forget to eat and hydrate. I know they seem basic and simple, but doing them will definitely help with both mental and physical fatigue.

I like listening to music while I play. That seems to help me stay interested in the long tournament I'm in. I play more than 1 game too to keep from getting bored.

i noticed i like to listen to reggea and such calm music when i play even tho i am a rap fan ^^ it keeps me calm, and playing more than 2 games in a row is too much for me since i concentrate and dont use HUD i pick patterns myself of other players but its tiring me and i am thinking about starting to use HUD too

I try to play a few tables at a time, I keep the one I really care about top left, and then just kind of play freerolls and filler to play a little looser. Also good to walk around a bit when youre getting ansty. :)

Make sure you stand up and move around during your breaks. Possibly even your folded hands.

The longer your session the more breaks become important. If I'm past 3-4 hours I'll walk away from the PC regardless of whether I have something to do or not just to give the eyes a break. If I'm down to one or two tables I might sit out a few hands and just clear my head and then come back.

Are you sure it's you losing focus and not just having trouble adjusting to the later stages of tournament play?

One thing I used to do was have a set schedule of the mtts I played starting in the morning- once I busted those 8 or 10 (had 2 alternates so if I busted a few early) I would take a break until my evening/late night session ran.

There were days that the sessions would all run together, but those were normally the days when I was playing my best and making deep runs. There were also days where my break between sessions would be like 6 hours, some where it was only 30 minutes, etc. Sometimes I would even cancel my late session altogether if I hadn't been happy with my play. But when I did play both sessions it was very important to me to try to stick to a certain schedule of games for each session.

I have definitely "taken risks" even in a SNG that goes on for two hours. For example, when it gets to HU, and it goes on and on and on, I get tired of it and am more likely to gamble.

I'm still not good at getting over that. It just gets tedious. I guess it would help to keep reminding yourself how much the jump in money is for each additional spot. For example, payout between 9th and 8th is not nearly as much as between 1st and 2nd. The latter it gets, the more important it is to stick with it.

This is a very common problem, it happens a lot to me, as some say you should try to take the 5 minutes of rest and relax, drink some kind of drink, eat, listen to music, etc, but for me it is more of a thing of how much you are concentrated, of course being 5 hours or more playing a tournament and not getting tired and maintaining 100% concentration is difficult, you should try to prove that it helps you because not all apply the same techniques to keep you focused on the game

You have to take a break....Period. You have to take at least 20 minutes out to recharge the engine for a long grind. Usually when I'm in the casino for 10 hour grinds I'll get up as soon as I feel my cards are cooling down. Get up go get a drink , walk around then back to it. If it's an online tourney it's pretty much the same. Depending on my stack Ill get and bounce around the house

I would recommend playing short tournaments or with less participants,

Stand up regularly, do a few stretches and lunges. Drink water. I sometime clean my office whilst playing. Anything to break up the monotony. Good luck
