Hi guys. Ive looked for a thread on this but there doesn't seem to be one.

Im after software for my laptop that i can play against virtual opponents. What i want to do is practise things like calculating odds etc without the time constraints of a live table.

I have a poker tracker to access my live game, but i really want something to play against specific types of opponents and practise specific types of hands, plays etc

Any i have seen cost upwards of $50, which I'm happy to pay for good software, but not if it turns out to be rubbish.

Thanks in advance

There's two such software I've heard of - Poker Academy Pro, and Wilson Turbo Texas Hold'em. Google them and do your homework before buying them.

DDpoker or otherwise known as Donohoe Digital puts a program like that and it didn't even cost me anything, you can even simulate your own tournaments and practice against player types. Google DDpoker3 and check it out if you like.

I'll admit, Telltale Games came out with Poker Night 2. I have a lot of fun with it!

I haven't played the second one, but I own the first one.

I can confirm this though, the first one is nothing like the real game, and I'd put my poker winnings on the fact the second one is also not like the real game.

free poker training software

Hi,

I've been working on such a software for a while. It's free and open source, you can download it there : http://sourceforge.net/projects/pokertraining/

Let me know if you like it, and how I could improve it.

Regards,

Marc Ennaji

Hello all Happy New Year. I thought I would add this footnote to this tread. Poker Academy is no longer available. The domain has been purchased by a company called Poker Genius http://www.poker-genius.com/. The company states their goal is to advance and promote poker AI. They sell a software that is a twin to Poker Academy. I purchased it and I love it. Now I have poker training software on my PC and my Mac.

If you use a HUD, you can also just go and look back at hand histories that interested/ had you confused, and you can work out the numbers for each play you had to make.

On the ipad/iPhone there is Poker 1 on 1 with Vanessa Rousso. It has different levels of difficulty and styles of opponents. There is a brief strategy guide. It's fun and only costs a couple of bucks.

Has anyone considered remaking it in HTML5 rather than Adobe Flash ? It may be supported by more browser and be more powerful. It would be useful for mobile.

Poker Genius formerly Poker Academy II

I've tried dozens, and hands down the best software is Poker Genius. It was originally published as Poker Academy II and developed by the computer science PhDs in the AI program at the University of Alberta, the most advanced research center studying poker http://poker.cs.ualberta.ca/. For some reason, Poker Academy II went out of business, and wasn't picked up until 2013 by Poker Genius, which is the same software exactly. The bots can be programmed to different styles, and they adjust their play according to your style. A good player can beat them, but the bots are close to what lots of players that one finds in a 1-2 game in a casino. The software also has a whole array of features, like being able to repeatedly play a hand like JJ in one position, a great learning tool to plug leaks. It gives deep statistics, showdown simulations, tournament and cash games, etc.

Hi, for calculating odds you can use Omaha Indicator, Holdem Indicator or PokerTableStats. Try these you will find them very useful in games online to track and practice odds calculation.

Poker simulator out there?

Is there a software out there that will generate hands and a flop, as well as bets and calls that the virtual players are making so that one can practice calculating odds? It doesn't have to be free.
