I copied and pasted my post from another thread right here:
I like it when poker is a game about matching wits and players forming their own opinions and making plays based on their own thoughts. This is where superior players can gain an advantage. This is why I prefer live poker where you are your own database as opposed to online poker where it becomes a video game and you don't have the need to possess half the skills that make a good live player. Any software that brings inferior players closer to skilled players is bad for the skilled player and a boon for the mediocre. Poker software is an equalizer that helps the less skilled compete with the more skilled, that is it's very purpose and the reason it is so popular. It's the same logic behind anonymous play, these are tools for the mediocre and the recreational.
I was watching poker vids on the youtubes today and the host had a hud, and honestly I had never seen one, never used one before. I get why they like them. It does all the work for you so you don't have to develop your instincts. To be clear, I do not think they are cheating. I just wonder, if they are a winning player with a hud, can they duplicate that without the hud.
Obviously everybody playing wants to make money. But the love of the game itself is also a motivation. I'm a fairly solid player, but by no means an ABC poker player, but i've done well, for a hobbyist, and have made some decent cash. I credit that with being able to get a 'feel' for the table, and I can do it online (I play at bovada which isn't hud friendly anyways) and in live casino games. That is a good feeling, when you have a bead on a player or players. Its also a skill that develops from experience and study..and paying attention.
The Hud program this guy uses told him everything, how aggressive, how loose, how likely to fold to a cbet on the turn, ect. Its the same information, except its not a read, or a 'feeling' its specifics, and it requires zero effort or ability. Ok, that's fine, I just don't think many of those players could hack it without that program. They are not exercising their ability to intuitively read a game. The are winning more (which is good) but they are not becoming better, and imo, have no love for the game outside of pure profit.
