Do u play in underground poker games or just mostly at a casino or online?? I have played poker for about 10 11 years and have played in may scenarios. What games do you prefer to play in. Underground in my opinion can be anything not at a casino or online, so a 20$ buy in every Friday night with a couple friends I would say is a underground game. Do u prefer these types of games or do you stick to the casino or online poker sites??? Just wondering what peoples preferences are and where they thrive.:confused:

Never played although thought about organizing friends and family night. Usually online poker but as of late I barely have time for it.

If your playing for substantial amounts of money, I would say yes, it is an underground game. If your playing for nothing no, its just a card game. Are you charging your kids a rake to play, probably not, if you were then it would be considered a underground game in most peoples eyes.

I've played a few home games and underground games, and the aggression is just insane. Casinos tend to have a more controlled game, they give quite a few perks for playing, and you're able to adapt different styles of play.

I only play for real money in the casino.
I also play underground but that's mostly for 5 euro and the winner pays the drinks for the night, so nobody takes the money home :)

Yes underground is definitely rounders and games like that for sure which I have played a lot in. These games can feel sketchy to play in , but for the most part are pretty safe if run properly by the right people (still illegal). In rounders those games are all most likely charging a rake to play, no one plays for free kind of thing, those type of games or like casinos, where every game is making substantial amounts of money. That being said if your friends hold games and make 10 bucks a buy in for a 50 dollar tourney or something and offer paid dealers and what not, I would consider that underground because someone is profiting off the said game. If someone is making money off a game whatever that may be buy-ins from tournaments or rake from cash games that would be considered a underground game. If your just playing for fun with a bunch of friends or family, and no one profits off the game, I would not consider it underground. As soon as you start making money off a poker game, you are offering a casino like service and I would consider the game as underground. Holding poker games and profiting off them no matter how small they may be is illegal in most areas if not all (not 100% sure), hence the game being underground.

Depends on what you consider underground. Home games with friends are ok for me but games played in basements with people that you do not know - no thanks. Such games have high probability of being rigged and even if you win it is highly unlikely that you will manage to get out with the money. Yes casinos take rake but at least you can walk out with the money if you win. :D

I have mention over my last few comments what I believe an underground game is. Yes I gave played in games where you think its rigged, but for the most part its not. its hard to have a dealer deal a rigged came for so many hours and have no one notice. The rigged part I dealt with are groups of players that play for the house where ever your game is located, they play very soft against each other and when were in pots together with a unknown player would bully them out of pots so one of the players win, this was the closest thing to rigged I have dealt with although it was pretty bad, I felt it could have been worse. Unknown players and players that weren't part of there little group still had a chance to win, just had to deal with a bunch of hurdles with these players which was not fun or easy.

I used to play in underground gaming halls a long time ago because in my country there were no open clubs or halls for free poker, but now in Ukraine poker is presented as an official sport and you can play anywhere like online poker or live poker offline, so that now I play poker in any where it is convenient for me and where it is convenient for me to spend time for the game!

I find it very neat that poker is presented as an official sport, how did they manage that? I know here in canada it is just a game to gamble on. I think that it should be a official sport though, that would be very cool. Good luck in your future games. Cheers:beerglass:beerglass

I have heard from another player (but not participated myself) about underground game where all high cards were marked so that players close to the owner of the place have edge. Anyway for me every game where you do not know the other players and there is no any regulation is potentially rigged game. Of course in some countries this is the only option to play live.

Very possible, but I believe it to be highly unlikely the cards were marked. Not saying they couldn't have been, but how would you see said cards. You would have to use specialized glasses or pay a lot of money for specialized contacts and i'm not sure you could even have the contacts made. People have stories about underground games but to me they have to make sense and this one does not. How would the players see the cards? would be my first question. They would have to see them in a way no one else would figure out, even specialized glasses could be figured out after some time by a smart human. All in all it could have maaaayyybbeee happen but very unlikely in my opinion, without somebody playing figuring it out.

I used to have friendly poker nights at home but hated the fact that after 3 hrs, everybody is just smacked out of their brains and the game just slows down terribly. So, sure, it's party time, but not poker time.

Been offered a few underground venues, but I have to be careful since gambling is under the Government control here in Montreal, Canada. Might try it at some point. For now, I'll stick to the Casino of Montreal and the Playground poker room (which is ironically managed by Indians in the Indian reserve where the Government cannot legislate) [emoji28]🤣. Mtl is great

Totally fair my friend, it is illegal here in B.C as well but I still found myself participating. I have never been in the room when the games have been busted thank god, i am on probation right now lol so I stay away from these games at the moment, don't want to chance things. I am not sure that the people (police) that bust these games really do anything to the players that play there, I have heard they just take you info and let you go maybe a few questions asked. I believe they are out to get the people that hold these games for the most part. As its illegal to run casino like places or any sort of a gambling hall over this way. I say if you feel like it maybe give these games a shot, the chance you get in trouble if even busted is very slim. Good luck in your future endevours. Cheers.

Don't think that this does not happen in real casinos. It does. I have played poker in a casino poker room where I was the ONLY outsider...these guys knew each other for years, and with the occasional wink of an eye, got one of their buddies to raise you to death.

I would love to find a regular local game where you can relax and have a good time but no-gots. I’ve heard that there are underground games around but they are definitely too dangerous for me. So I play online and at the local casino and battle the regs and rake.

Ya the place I played at was just full of degenerates. Mostly gangsters and drug dealers, i thought it was kinda funny as I started becoming quite friendly with these types of people. Everyone is pretty alright no matter what their line of work may be in. Just coming together to play the game we all love everyone is mostly pretty respectful of one another.

Long-time ago when there were no casinos in my country and besides I was only 17 years old I played poker (5 card draw) I played poker in places where gamble was illegal, but since I turned 21 until now I only played in casinos and online, it makes no sense to risk life when there are safe and legal places to play poker
