I am going to travel to Australia next month and would like to go to their casinos. Will be in Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Melbourne. Planning to go to The Star and/or Crown Casino.

Which level of cash game do you recommend? I read from their websites that the rakes are pretty high, so which level do you think is most profittable?

Any regs in those casino?

Cash levels depend on your ability, as I don't know what your ability is or what size BR you have I can't say.

I'm not a reg at Crown, but what I have seen there is that a lot of wannabees play the 1/2NL at and that can be profitable. I'd say that is the case with all of the casinos here, you will find good regs there also. CCer belladonna was here in January and did well at 2/3NL.

The Star is in Sydney, you didn't mention going to Sydney, only mentioning it in case you think it is in Melbourne. What dates will you be in Melbourne.

Thanks for your info. I meant The Star in Gold Coast, I might be around Brisbane and Gold Coast too.

Is 10% rake normal for playing poker in casinos? I have never played in casinos before.

Yes I did and they were a blast. A lot of people were there for the aussie millions and so no lack of cash game players. The poker room is great. Some key differences between US cash games and there.
1. The dealers get paid well, no tipping.
2. The rake is higher but again no tipping, I think it evens out, but I'm not a cash game genius so that's just my opinion.
3. The tables I played at the crown were considered turbo tables. I loved it. The dealer started a clock, there is no constant tanking.
4. They don't have a high hand or bad beat jackpot, but they did have a royal flush one when I was there.
5. No free drinks and you pay for them when you order them.

I also played at the Star in Sydney, I also liked their poker room with basically the same rules as above , I'm not sure about their jackpots, never asked. They also have the dealer deal out of a shoe, it was very weird, I've never saw that anywhere else , ever.
