I'm wondering what is the usual practices with your weekly tournaments in the local casino when things get down TO and NEAR the money. In a recent tourney with about 100, after 5+ hours of play it got down to final table 10. It only paid 9, so talk began of everyone chipping in $10 to the bubble. It worked up $15, then $20 (I don't know how), and glad it did because I ended up being the bubble. Then in other tourneys I've observed, it seems like most are ending by chopping with the last 3-4; particular when ending late at night or when playing for over 10 hours. Smaller tourneys ending with a chop as soon as the bubble bursts.

What other types of "wind-up" deals and decisions have others encountered in live events?

Do things wind-up differently in the tour events; excluding the big televised ones?

Last time I played a tournament in Daytona they did this and then I refused chop until we were heads up, but I thought making a payout among the players for the bubble was a great idea.

The last live tournament I played and cashed was for a chop. The casino went hand for hand with 3 before the bubble. We played 6 15 Minuit levels this way. when we were on the bubble of the 1st money jump we went hand for hand again and 2 levels later were still there when we made the chop. I hated doing it but the casino had the levels going up large and we were only getting 2 to 3 hand per level. I was one of the top 3 stacks with 16 left but the next blind level was just about to happen and I would have been down to about 5 BB and going into the blinds. The average stack was down to about 3 BB and the game had turned into a joke. One thing I can say is I have never gone back to that casino again and never will. It was amazing the floor person did not try to keep the game moving at somewhat of a decent pace. I doubt we played more than 25 hands in those last 2 hours.

I like to throw a few bucks when on the money bubble into the pot so everyone gets paid. So often when it does not happen the play just gets very slow as nobody wants to get out before the bubble breaks.
