I remember playing a cash game live on a cruise, but it was via a computer screen. Does that take away in anyway of the game from begin live? All players are still seated together and can chat with one another.

Asking because of Covid-19 and I think this might be the safest form of live games.

If you mean one of these electronic tables for poker where you sit physically but software is doing all the things - well this is more close to online than live at least for me. If you don't have real chips, live dealer and real felt to touch everything left from the live game is the contact with the other players which of course is better than not having even that but is definitely not the full live experience.

+1 You could say this is "live-time" or "real-time" but I wouldn't call it a "live game." This is just playing online or a video game, or some other electronic format. Live poker will always be "living in the moment" and with the freedom to move chips around, have a dealer, and be able to interact face-to-face with the other players.

To answer the original question directly: "If you play a live game with a computer screen is that live?" No.

It is still online, but with the variable that they can see your expressions when you play live. It is similar to being at a real table

I agree with what jorgetorres0 says. Yes, technically it's "online" since the cards, chips and actions are all done via computer. But when you factor in the human element and reading tells, that's what makes it more of a "live" game to me as that's a factor that definitely cannot be conveyed in the traditional online play format.

I would use video conferencing platforms like Zoom, as well as deposits to virtual wallets, and live chat rooms to locate players in real time.

I think that is not the same and that's why. When you play live game you see emotions during THE WHOLE game. But when you play using different video platforms there are some restrictions of that:
1. problems with connection
2. ability to turn off micro or camera
3. you see only half a man on a camera but you don't see his legs, hands and so on
4. you can't see all players together (except cases when you have 9 monitors and watch everyone separately). You need to switch streams all the time to see that guy you wanna see right now.

Hi.
Of course, due to the pandemic, online games are only gaining popularity and including poker. I always prefer to play online, over live play. For me it is convenient, comfortable and most importantly safe.
Good luck.

Right now I can't wait until, casinos open up. I want to play live poker badly. Once casinos open up here , I will be looking to play in some poker tournaments again. I think I am going to go to Montreal once the WPT, comes here again. My son's want to play as well as my brother in law. Hopefully soon enough we can do poker at casinos.

I have played on the DigiDeal tables, and its closer to live than online, the cards are digital, but you can still get live reads.

I don't think so I like to play love better because you can sometimes read your opponents off their body language or what they say.

Nah, it wouldn't be live to me with screens.

Just like how some casinos have those roulette wheel console machines... idk never cared for them. Cuz I could do that from home, right?

No I don't think so it will not be live if you are using a screen you need to fell the ships and the cards to be live.

live is when you are physically playing with other players next to you. it's like having sex with a real person versus a sex doll. just my $0.05

I don't think some of the posts get it...you are live at a table with the other players. You can see their faces to make reads. You can talk to them, stare them in the eyes...it IS live. The difference is that you sit in front of a screen, so the deal is automatic, you can play double the hands per hour, with no chance of mistakes with chip counts. You can also see how many chips in everyone's stacks. It is live; the other players are right there for you to watch for tells...you can't do that online.

This is a complicated question, because I am alive and my poker partner is also alive person, but we use a computer to play and it is a machine. I think that the gadget is only the means that helps us to communicate woth each other. So, I consider that our game is live.

well, it is definitely no fully live and not fully online. You see people reactions, faces and emotions, you do not see in online games. Same time you have no dealer, you don't touch the cards, chips, all ritual gon. So no, sorry do not like this idea at all.
